Stats to excel
Stats to excel
I believe you guys said we would eventually be able to get the stats in excel. Im looking forward to that. It would be nice if you could sort the stats based on batting average or by alphabetical order. I would also like to be able to see the K's looking (I believe it is a very important stat) as well as be able to filter what players hit with 2 strikes. Since the data is in there, I am guess it would be pretty easy to access.
Thanks

Re: Stats to excel
Exporting to an Excel compatible format is one of the top priorities for our next release.
Sorting would be possible within the Excel spreadsheet - any column in any order you want.
We will be including the K's looking stat as well.
The filtering by hits on 2 strikes is an interesting one. We will have to think about the best way to present something like that as the corrolaries are things like who swung at the first pitch, who swung at a 3-0 pitch, who battled back from an 0-2 deficit, etc... we would like to make all of this type of data available.
Equally interesting is coming at it from the other angle... which pitchers were able to "come back" from a 3-0 count to get a batter out, which pitchers blew an 0-2 count to walk someone, etc.
As you said, we have all this data captured, it is just figuring out the best way to present it so it is useful.
Thank you.

Re: Stats to excel
I'd like to bet that there is software in the marketplace right now that would be able to analyse the batter and pitcher situations as mentioned .... I reckon a bit of googling etc could prob find out what options are available.
I would like to think the MLB teams probably use this intelligence already

Re: Stats to excel
Hi CoachBob
This is what I do right now (until the release with xls export):
1. Email the stats (game or cumulative)
2. Select all the players and stats in the email.
3. Copy
4. Paste in Excel (or Numbers on a Mac, or Open Office)
5. Sort at your will...
It works great, until we get the real thing. (By the way, in Numbers and Open Office it even maintains the format, alternating colors and everything)
Hope this helps.

Re: Stats to excel
I tried the suggestion for Numbers (iWork 08) but it is not working. I am getting a very long column. Excel (2004) works fine. Would rather work in Numbers if possible. I'm not sure what I'm missing.
Thanks
Thanks
Re: Stats to excel
Hi suttio
It is a version problem.
I am using Numbers from iWork 09 and it works. When I tried in my old version (08) it behaves as you have pointed out.
I am trying to find a solution, but in the meantime, an alternative could be to paste into Excel, save, and then import the Excel file into Numbers (just go to "File... Open" in Numbers and select the Excel file). That should let you work in Numbers.
I will post if I find another solution.

Re: Stats to excel
Thanks for looking into it. I was afraid it was a version problem which is why I posted I was using "08". I really appreciate your help! Please don't waste your time trying to find a work around. I will either import into Excel and then Pages, upgrade, or just re-copy over to Statbook.
Thanks again for your help!

suttio:
I found a workaround which includes using an AppleScript, but I am pretty sure you don't want to go thru all that trouble. It is much easier to paste into excel and open in Numbers...

Re: Stats to excel
It would also be great to be able to import stats that we may already have from other software products used in the past. Utilize for lifetime averages.

Re: Stats to excel
We have this on our list, but it is a bit lower priority.
Our next release now has the export to Excel capability. We are going to be submitting this to the App Store any day now.
Thank you.
