dropped 3rd strike tag by catcher

Post by coach1 » Sun Apr 21, 2013 6:53 am

I may be scoring this wrong but yesterday on a dropped third strike catcher tags the batter. Play by play shows dropped third strike runner out on throw from catcher

I scored it DTS,
touched player involved 2 (didnt show 2-3 for throw to first)
play by play shows it as dropped runner out on throw from catcher to first.

is there another way to do this or am i doing something wron

We just tried this sequence:

Strike, Strike, Strike
Out, Dropped 3rd Strike
Tap Catcher, Done

Pitch by Pitch now says:

"#3 Player 3 strikes out but the third strike is dropped. Batter is thrown out by the catcher #32 Matt Wieters. Unassisted out by catcher #32 Matt Wieters"

It never mentions anything about the first baseman. What version of iScore are you using, and/or where are you seeing a mention of the first baseman?

I think he's inquiring about this part:
Batter is thrown out by the catcher #32 Matt Wieters

I just score this as a strikeout because the put out still goes to the catcher. If you wanted you could add a note, but I don't. :)

If it is the kind where the ball bounces and the catcher scoops it up and tags the batter just as a formality, then yeah, strikeout is probably just fine. You see it in MLB all the time where there is a strikeout and the batter is starting to walk back to the dugout but the catcher tags him anyway because the ball bounced or was dropped and immediately picked up. Pretty sure the official scorer in those cases just marks a strikeout as well and not dropped third.
