Alerts and Reminders

Post by SiliconTiger » Wed Apr 04, 2012 6:11 pm

It would be useful to be able to program alerts and reminders. An example of an alert would be when a pitcher reaches a certain threshold (user programmable) of pitches, a pop-up appears reminding the coach that the pitcher has crossed a certain number of pitches. This would be very useful when needing to stay within max pitching limits for Little League (or if you don't want your Pitcher to pitch more than a certain number of pitches so he can pitch in the next game while adhering to rest rules). You can think of all types of alerts (if a pitcher throws N number of balls, when a fielder has N number of errors, etc). I think the general idea would be to have any stat/data that is being maintained (within reason) to be used to create an alert, and of course have as many alerts programmed in as you want...

A reminder is a bit different. It would be nice if you could set up a reminder before a certain inning (or half inning) begins. For example, you could set up a reminder to tell your weak player that you just put at 2B to remember to backup 2B on a steal. Or add a reminder when a new Pitcher is about to enter the game to tell that Pitcher some things you have been working with him on. For another pitcher you might add a reminder to the outfielders that he's a fast pitcher so rotate the outfield Right... Just think about all the individual things you tell players (batting suggestions/tips too!) that would be very handy to add in as reminders before the game so in the middle of a game you don't forget!

Thanks.

We will add these ideas to our enhancement list. Keep in mind that most scorekeepers are not the coaches however, so these reminders would only apply to a smaller percentage of the user base.

Yes, I understand they would not be that useful for those just keeping score. As they are optional they would have no impact on the scorekeepers. What I see though in our Little League is quite a few coaches who now keep their own stats using iScore (the realtime data can be very valuable), and for those that don't they are constantly checking with their scorekeepers who are scoring using iScore for all sorts of things. So even if the coach is not scoring with iScore during the game, my guess is what this scorekeeper-coach interaction which seems typical would still make these Alerts & Reminders very useful.

Thanks.

Keep in mind that many rules do not permit electronic devices in the dug out except for score keeping. They cannot be used in making coaching decisions. Fine line and grey area I admit.

True, although what I am suggesting would be optional anyway. If a coach has an iPad in the dugout and there are rules against using it for anything other than score keeping, there already is an honor system that the coach much abide by, otherwise there's all sorts of stuff a coach could pull up on their iPad (spreadsheets, etc) that have nothing to do with iScore but would definitely be considered coaching aids. Agree it's a fine line but as I said if there are rules against it, then a coach wouldn't need to use these optional features I am proposing.

Thanks.

I agree that a configurable pop up that reminded the scorer that the pitcher is at a certain number of pitches would be helpful.
