Coach Pitch / Walk Rule

Post by 3rdGenBruin » Thu Jan 14, 2010 11:00 pm

I know there was another thread on this in August, but I thought I would ask if perhaps you had a timeline now.

I'd like to see a feature/option where there are no walks. If a pitcher walks a batter then the batter doesn't actually walk, but rather the coach pitches. The batter can then hit or strikeout. I would need the atbats to be tabulated separately in the stats or, at the very least, be marked in the scoresheet.

I realize there are a bunch of different variations on this rule, but I do believe this is the most common way that leagues do this. Any chance this will be available by March 1? I'd gladly pay an additional $10 :)

We do have this option on our overall priority list, but unfortunately we are still trying to focus our efforts on things that effect the most people, and this is a smaller audience (really the youngest kids only).

You can somewhat get around it by only entering 3 balls for batters. We have notes in the product now (which we didn't have back when this was originally discussed) that you could use to add a note when a coach pitches. You can make notations that you understand ("CP" for example).

Notes currently appear in the pitch by pitch listings, and we will be adding them to the Scoresheet soon as well. So if you started adding notes now, they would appear automatically on the Scoresheet when we make that addition.

This would be a nice feature as our current league is a no walk, coach pitch. Maybe a small option to turn off walks. I read in another thread that a work around would be to add a player to each roster, called "coach pitch" or something and sub him into the game when needed. The only issue I can see is since the kid can only throw five pitches to a batter, and in the case he throws four straight balls, or even five straight balls, you would have to enter two of the pitches as strikes. That would mess up the pitchers ball/strike ratio.

I purchased the software last night on many recommendations. ...and since it came out for Android. Looking forward to this Saturday's first game.

Thanks for the great software!
