Switching from Android to iPhone (answered, pending any user replay back as needed)

Post by ixamnis » Sun Oct 01, 2017 7:29 pm

About time to upgrade my almost 4 year old android phone. Considering switching to iPhone. Question is I have 7 years worth of iScore games (about 350 of my daughter's games) that I've collected between the current Android phone and the previous Android phone. Will I be able to get those games transferred to an iPhone? I assume I'd have to buy the app again. I was hoping to be able to eventually print out the scorecards from all the games and put them in a notebook for my daughter. Problem is if I go to the admin website, some of the scorecards don't exist now. I assume they got lost in a previous server migration and I need to have the games re emailed to have them show up again. Could do that with my current android, but my older android phone that has the other half of the games on it starts acting wonky (screen starts flickering and shifts from one app to another without asking it to) after its been on for a few minutes and so I am hoping if I transfer those games doing a data share from the admin website to a new device or my current android phone if necessary I will be able to recreate the missing scorecards on the admin website. Hopefully I am making sense as to what I hope to accomplish. Any advice would be appreciated.

@iixamnis

#1) Yes, you can easily transfer all your iscore data from one device to another (android to android, Android to iPhone, iPhone to android or iphone to iPhone) . (you will need the Device ID of devices and password - which sounds like you do have). this takes less than 5 min, from an old device to a brand new device with no games on it, it replaces the entire data base on new device with old database. presto.

Here is a brief How to for Copying an old data base to a new phone
http://iscoresports.com/baseball/kb/faq ... lldata.php

however, if sounds like you have games on two android devices (old flickering android and more recent android) , As such this will take longer than 5 min, you will need to use Data sharing to transfer games from one device game by game to consolidate all to a single device . you can consolidate all onto the more recent Android using data share and then Transfer all to iPhone, or you can transfer the larger android data base to iPhone and then use data share on new iPhone to retrieve game by game the other android games. ,

I would suggest you go ahead and consolidate all your games to your more recent android device now. . then if you buy an iPhone, it will only take 5 minutes to move over database from a consolidated Android to new iPhone .

here is a FAQ on data sharing , game by game transfer.
http://iscoresports.com/baseball/kb/faq ... _share.php

#2) the pricing for the apps on both iPhone and Android has changed to Free. So repurchasing the App is a non issue.
the iPhone has a few more user enhancements than Android

#3) If the scorecard is not showing on your new Admin web site, You will need to email each game to update the admin site. (time consuming yes)
You can send the email to "web" if you don't want to actually send an email, but just update the team website.

Fyi small point. (as noted elsewhere on the forum) the PDF scorecard on iPhone has a graphic annotation for unearned/earned runs (a white center for unearned runs) not generated on Android PDF. .. so yo may want to do the scorecard generation from which ever you prefer.

As always, feel free to post back with any questions .. glad to explain more as needed

Do I have to transfer game by game? What happens if I do a data transfer on just the 4 teams my daughter played on that I scored on the old old phone? Will it transfer the games they played and the opposing teams and players too? Or do I have to go game by game to get that to happen? Also the present android is running low on storage. It appears though that iscore is not using much of that storage and even if I double the iscore data on the phone I will have room for it. Will it be an issue that 2 or 3 of her former travel ball teammates ended up being opponents in the college games I scored on the newer old android phone that I am going to transfer all her old old games to? I am guessing mapping or merging comes into play here.

Data shareing is game by game.
Stats come from games (. Not teams.)
If you want to transfer stats you have to transfer their source - the games.
If you want complete career stats for a player, you need all games played by player, .

Data sharing Adds data to your data base and merges data for players mapped. Ii is how you consolidate two devices games to one device
Try a few to see how It works

Yes player mapping happens in data share, if you want player x stats to accumualte for career you need to map him .. ( or merge them later)

I assume each game you scored had at least one kid in it who you want to collect career stats. Ao yiu need all games

Thanks OhioTex for walking me through this. On my old old phone I have all my daughter's travel ball games (since 2011) and her last 3 years of high school games. Those I never transferred to my new, soon to be old, phone. I did transfer already some of her early college games from the old old phone. So I just need to transfer game by game the rest of her travel ball and high school games to my new, soon to be old, android phone. My concern is this mapping thing for players. I know I want to have all my daughter's stats and she would have been in each game. But as I said she has teammates from travel ball that turned into opponents in college and I'd want their cumulative stats. Plus she had opponents in travel ball and high school ball that remained opponents in college and it would be nice to map/merge their stats together. And she has a couple teammates from college that were opponents in either travel ball or high school ball. (Although in travel ball I didn't keep track of opponents names or even teams very well. A lot of times I just had listed "opponent" for the team we were playing and then listed the players using numbers or letters and put their jersey number next to them.) I will now just need to take some time to read through how the mapping and merging thing works. I assume when I select a game to import/transfer it asks to "map" new players from that game into the phone I am importing the game to. But players like my daughter are already in that phone so what does it ask me about her? Also when I get this done I have handwritten scorebooks that I have her travel ball games on dating back to 2008 or so. I took fairly detailed notes so I am hoping to transfer those games to whatever new device I get when all this other stuff is figured out. Thanks again, any further advice is always appreciated.

To transfer games on old old android to old android will be a game by game data share. Time consuming . You just have to weigh your time / effort investment. There is no magic wand.

The mapping is what it is. Try it a few games and you will see what it can and can not do. Just know once the mapping is made, you cant 'sever' it later.. if you tell it team A is same as team alpha.. you cant go back in future game say team A is team apple. Same with players .

Also realize if you miss a player map, can merge later.. you import jane from team A to team alpha w no map. Fund out later jane on team A is same jane in team B and team alpha. In player manager you can merge those three to a sungle jane ..

One other question I thought of is what happens to the leagues that were set up on the old old phone? do they transfer too or do I have to reset them up and then re assign them to the proper games?

By design, Leagues do not transfer in data sharing..

Leagues do transfer when you use the admin web site to copy entire database from old to new device

I am glad to keep replying... but i am not sure what is confusing you or where you are having reservations .. so let me try and recap ..

My understanding is you want to consolidate all your games from two existing android devices (old and more recent) and then get them all on a brand new third device, an iPhone.

You have the device ID and password for each android device . You have option > exported both devices to make sure admin server is current. But the older android device is hard to use , flickers/crashes etc ( which is fine after option > export.. you do not need to use older android iscore)

I recommend..

On newer android, Use data sharing to retrieve each game from old android not on newer android device. This is game by game transfer done on newer android using older android device ID and password . It is the inly way to "consolidate" already scored ganes.

Yes you want to pay attention in this process and map any common players or teams you may care about, ( but if you miss a mapping, and discover later two versions of player x, you can merge them . )

Yes leagues will not transfer from old device. If you want games transfered into a specific league, create that leage on newer device before data share and have it enabled when you data share. transfered game inherit the active league at the time of transfer

Once you have consolidated all games onto one device.. in less than five minutes you can transfer that entire consolidated database to a new device ( be it android or iphone) . Assuming new device has no games on it . Just 1 update admin web site with OPTION >EXPORT from device w all the ganes. Then 2 use admin site to copy from consolidated device to brand new device id. This will copy all leagues too, it is a full copy of your database

have you tried transfering a game by data shareing yet? . Give it a try to see and understand better how that works. Data Share is the only way you will be able to consolidate past games scored. It really does not matter if you stay with your existing android device or move to a new device. ( years ago, when moving from older android, to new android, if you had copied the database before scoring on newer android, like i am proposing here, you would not have had to data share each game. But if you now want all games on one device, that is what you need to do)

Alternatively,
If you only want newer android devices games on new phone. You can copy its database to new Id and then data share later from old old android to new device. But will be same effort just later in time
