iScore Baseball v4.30 for iOS submitted to Apple

Post by FTMSupport » Tue Oct 22, 2013 5:26 pm

We have submitted iScore Baseball v4.30 to Apple and it is awaiting approval. The following updates are included:
  • iOS7 Updates - Quick Lineup UI fix, Scrolling issues, Registration issue, Layout when adding player from Lineup, Date Picker in some situations, other Misc fixes
  • Voice Scoring - If you enable "Voice Recognition" in game options, you can score games by saying what occurred. Feature currently supports the following voice commands:

"Strike", "Looking", "Swinging", "Ball", "Intentional", "Foul Ball", "Foul", "Undo", "Redo", "Single", "Double", "Triple", "Homerun"

NOTE: Background Noise can cause this functionality to not work well. Be sure you are using headphones and have as little background noise as possible. We would love to get feedback on headphones people have had success with in loud situations. Please post in our forum or email us.
  • Sorting - Player stats on iPad now sorts in reverse date order

I am excited to try the voice recognition. When I'm filming it would allow me to keep my eye on the event.

Got the update this morning. A cursory glance looks like the issues with the pull-downs are good now.

Can't wait to try out the voice recognition in a crowd situation this weekend! A few minutes ago, I activated it, sat my phone on my desk, reached over and shook my bottle of orange juice, and heard "Foul ball". Almost dropped my juice.

Will definitely want to use headphones if using the voice recognition. We know the standard apple headphones don't work great with a lot of background noise. We are hopeful to hear feedback from others on what microphone /headset they try so maybe we can come up with a recommended set.

Will the voice recognition be an enhancement coming to the Android version as well?

Depending on the feedback we get on how well it works in loud game situations / which headsets work, we would look to add it to Android in the future as well. If it does not get a good response, then we would not likely spend time adding it to Android.

I just realized one other thing. My phone screamed out "Foul Ball!" But I have Play Sounds set to "Off".

That is a different audio feedback. When you have voice commands on, the device says back what it heard as confirmation that it was received. Otherwise you would not know your command was accepted.

I tried it out today at a small tourney. I had quite a few "I don't know what the heck you just said to me" comments from my phone, but I think it has GREAT potential! I definitely need to invest in a headset to get more out of it. Eventually I can see this becoming even better as you add the ability to answer questions about what happened to the runners and pitches (e.g. curve strike, rise strike, rise ball, screw strike … or really fancy like "curve high and outside").

We're done for the year now but I'm really looking forward to the advancement of this concept.
