Syncing teams between devices

Post by SAP » Fri May 13, 2011 8:45 pm

When I score a game, let's say on my IPad, and I create two new teams both with quick rosters, updating player names and jersey numbers on the fly, and then upload the data to the server following the game, when I sync the data with my IPhone, it will bring down the players names but not their jersey numbers.

Also, when I create the team members on the fly from the quick roster, when I go to the team manager to look at them on the same device I created the team on it is the same situation, player names are on the roster but not their numbers.

Then if I go ahead and add their numbers to the matching names in the team manager, upload it to the server, and then sync it with another device, it still does not add the player numbers.

So essentially, if I create a team with a quick roster, I have to go to the team manager on all devices in order to put in the player numbers, even on the device I made the quick roster from.

If you are editing the LINEUP during the game, be sure to use Options, Copy Lineup -> Roster from the lineup screen as you are making changes. This will make sure the ROSTER is updated as well as the lineup. When you use data sharing to transfer teams, you are transferring ROSTERS, so it is important the roster has the player names and jersey numbers.

Let me make sure I am following you. I have seen that before and didn't know what it did.

#1: I am not just editing the roster during the game, I am creating it as the game starts from a blank slab.

So at the end of the game before I export, I need to go into the team manager, go to the new team, and copy the roster into the team from the one that was created during the game?

#2: after I have updated the roster in the team manager on device #1, exported it to the web site, and then synced it with device #2, why is it not updating the numbers of the players in the team manager of device #2?

Thanks Scott

Ok, I got the copy line up down, that worked. I can't picture at this moment why that wouldn't be a default setting to have it set to unless told other wise.

Player numbers are still not syncing following changes to player numbers in the team manager from device #1 to device #2.

Can this not happen?

I don't have lots of lineup changes - mostly the order of batters, but some substitutions as well - and very rarely do I save those changes back to the roster. The roster has the lineup used the majority of the time. The changes I do make are usually for one or two games only.

I am doing 14-U and 10-U baseball and softball. When I am scouting games of other teams, I am doing it on my iPad. Then I try to sync it with my iPhone that I use while coaching the games. It is not importing the player numbers, sometimes it will do their names but not numbers. I then have to get my iPad out and re-enter the player numbers and it is time consuming when I don't have it prior to the game starting.

Prior to hitting verify, it is showing all the correct info, but after hitting verify, they do not show up in the team manager of the device that I just synced the information to.

Ok, this is what I figured out to this point. My team rosters are still not syncing, but the games are. I am having to go to device #2, go to the game that had been synced, undo the end of the game, copy quick roster to team roster, and then it is putting the players into the team roster on device #2.

Sorry late to the thread..

SAP..

A) Do not think of data sharing as "synch" it is not built that way.
It was built to transfer, not synch.. Changes on one device are not replicated back and forth. When it was created it was thought of as one off, I could not score today, another person did, they shoot me a copy of the scored game. When created, folks were not doing much back and forth iPad and iPhone and android etc...

B) how you can transfer jersey numbers is a bit two step..
Data share game from device a to b. Open game on device b, and them copy line up to roster on that device.

I agree, that is how I have had to do it the best way I have been able to find., copy lineup to roster.

It is frustrating, because like I was saying, when we are playing I am scoring on my iphone during the game, however, when I am scouting, I use my ipad.

I don't know how to make that recommendation, but that is the one I have for this app, make devices completely syncable (is that a word?) between devices.

If you have any experience scoring young kids games you know things move fast right after the coin toss and lineup exchange.

Ump's start the clock right after the coin toss and one has to move fast.

The request for making iscore work concurrently with multiple devices (eg one scores batting one pitching, and merge) and" sych" (like you are suggesting) have been made and are on FTM radar screen. However, The likelihood of seeing them anytime soon I would expect is very low due to the complexity vs cost factors involved and the main user base uses as standalone. But suffice it to say it is on FTM list

btw, yes i have scored a few youth games. a trick i am sure you have found, is to try to pick up jersey number while ino n deck circle, then enter in when a dead spot in game. first time through line up takes some extra focus. and yes have to remember post game to copy line up to roster. but all in all manageable
