Advance a runner one base using Edit

Post by HITCHCOCK5 » Thu Feb 18, 2010 9:16 am

Situation: First batter hits a double. Second batter does a sac bunt, but I forgot to advance the man on second to third. Later I clicked on Pitch by Pitch and tried to edit the advance of the baserunner on the sac bunt but the button for "Safe/Third" was grayed out.

How could I have edited other than just hitting undo all the way back to that sac bunt?

We do not currently allow edits that would change the position of runners on base... would have to undo to make this kind of a change.

The reason for that is subsequent plays depend on knowing where all the runners are, so a change like that could have a ripple effect. For example, a couple plays later you might have him going from 2nd to 3rd, but if we had allowed that edit, then it would mess up the future play. (Very simplistic example, but the point is that this type of changing has a much further reaching impact than just the "current play".)

What you CAN do is whenever you have a runner advancing (like from 2nd to 3rd), you can change HOW he advanced (like changing it from Stolen Base to Advanced by Batter or On the Throw).

You can also add notes to any play. So in the play by play listing, for that particular play, you can add a note after the fact saying the runner actually advanced to 3rd on the play.

In the future, if you notice something like this a few pitches later (and it is really infeasible to Undo back to that point to make the change), just go ahead and advance the runner to 3rd at that time, mark it as "Advanced by Batter", and put a note on the play saying he actually advanced on the previous batter's base hit.

Hope this helps.
