Data Transfer Vs Data Copy

Post by BillsfanCA » Mon Mar 03, 2014 4:03 pm

I had done a cumulative import via my web admin to import the current stats for my league which was done outside of iscore. This worked great and I was able to export to my device and everything was great. I then went to a new device and used data share from web to pull this same info down to my new device. On the new device, it showed all the available items for import including statistics.

After importing all teams and statistics to the new device, I then went to team manager/team stats and expected to see all team members like I do on my original device but this was not the case. The Team stats section was empty. I had to do a data copy using manage data and registering each device using the same email in order to accomplish this.

My question is shouldn't the data transfer have accomplished this as well? We have 3 guys in our league who have purchased the iscore app so we'll be doing a lot of data transfers to keep all devices in sync and I'm trying to find the best way to accomplish this.

Please advice and thanks for your time. Love the app!

You are onto a couple topics here..

First The feature you used to 'bring in stats pre Iscore from the admin site' is a very new feature (less than a month old).. Glad it worked

To get that same data into another device, you most likely have to do that same process on your 2nd and 3rd device.
That is because Option > Data Sharing was built to transfer rosters and 'actual games' (and by transferring the games The stats that come along with the game action). Data shareing was not designed to transfer stats. Just team rosters and games

Data Shareing also does not transfer " league relationships' those are configured on each device

The admin web site function to 'copy data' across linked devices will copy and replace in totality the entire data base. But it wiped out the destination as that is what it is designed for . To move from old device to new device

If your 2nd and 3rd units are blank and you want to 'clone' device 1 to device 2and 3. Then the admin copy data feature would transfer everything leagues and stats included as it replaces the database on target devices

Make sense?

That does make sense. So assuming all 3 devices are cloned using copy function, would the following workflow keep all devices in sync:

1.). Any device used to score a game would perform an export
2.). Devices 2 & 3 would then using data share from web to pull in game info?

Would this keep all devices in sync?

Thank you.

Yes .

One caveat., leagues..

As time goes on you will no doubt create leagues and they will have to be managed on each device. League relationships do not pass by Option > data share

Also the option > data share can go the other way .. If device 2 scores a gabe and option > exports .. Device 1&3 can get the game by option > data share from device 2

So help me understand. I have created 4 leagues with 3 teams each. Each device was cloned using copy function so they all have these leagues. I understand if one device creates a new league that I cant transfer it over to other devices but if all devices start as clones where they all have same info won't this keep the devices in sync?

Just keep in mind that when you transfer the games using data sharing, you will need to make sure the right league is currently active on the device you are copying to. The game will be assigned to whatever league is active when you do the data share. If it comes across to the wrong league, you can always open the game in Game Manager and change the league it is assigned to.
