How to score a 'strike out-throw out' DP? & iPad double play crash ? (tested, answered, pending user reply back if need)

Post by Tacho47 » Tue Jul 11, 2017 2:47 pm

0 or 1 Out, R1, Full Count

With the next pitch, R1 breaks for 2nd Base. The pitch is swung at and missed (strike out swinging). The catcher guns the ball to the SS, who retires R1 on a tag (Caught stealing).

This is a typical DP-Situation.

How does IScore handles this, not forceing a manual data override regarding crediting the DP right?

What i would do

R1, no outs

Batter strike three. (Swinging)

Then tap the runner icon at first > out> second> Double play > catcher- short stop > done

The stats
Batter - strike out, out 1
Pitcher - strike out
Runner - caught stealing, out 2
Catcher - a put out, an assist, a CS and a DP
Short stop -a put out and a DP

The PDF scorecard is not going to be perfect but the stats look right to me

It doesn't work with IPad, as IScore will shut down the dialog after tapping "Double Play"!

If you are experiencing a 'crash', Please publish the steps you are taking.. support can then replicate and figure out the issue

Worked as described on iphone (i am traveling and do not have an ipad to test)

Re: How to score a 'strike out - throw out' DP? & Ipad double play crash ( support? User reply?)

Just tested on my iPad Mini, v5.020 of iScore.

Scored like this:
R1
Full count on batter
Strike three swinging
Prompt comes up to ask what happened to R1
Select Out
Select Double Play
Prompt comes up, select C to SS
Play complete
2 Outs

My stats also reflect OhioTex's above.

@support - can you replicate the reported crash on an iPad?

@ Tacho47.. do you have Game Setting: Minimize Questions set = yes or No?
Please provide the exact sequence of steps that lead to a crash.
(I tested on both iOS versions on iPhone in light and dark skin, and various game settings and could not replicate a crash, @randy tested on an iPad mini. I am traveling and do not have access to my iPad to test)

POINT OF CLARIFICATION on ENTRY METHOD

if minimize questions = no (MY PREFERENCE,)
  • Batter strike three. (Swinging) >
What happen to runner at first ?> out> second> Double play > catcher- short stop > done
FYI - Stats as previously described, Seem all correct (Batter - strike out, out 1, Pitcher - strike out, Runner - caught stealing, out 2, Catcher - a put out, an assist, a CS and a DP, Short stop -a put out and a DP
FYI - scorecard nearly perfect, For R1 says FO# instead of TO#. has DP on batter who struck out card box
If minimize questions = Yes
  • Batter strike three. (Swinging)
Then tap the runner icon at first > out> second> Double play > catcher- short stop > done
FYI - Stats as previously described, Seem all correct Batter - strike out, out 1, Pitcher - strike out, Runner - caught stealing, out 2, Catcher - a put out, an assist, a CS and a DP, Short stop -a put out and a DP
FYI - scorecard bit confused as will assign the DP to batter after the K and as well as the FO#

P.S, technically you do not need to tap second base, before Double play, you can save a tap, scorecard will still show out between 1st and 2nd.

No, it does not crash on our iPad here. To test, we walked a runner to first base, then did the following:

Out, Strikeout, tap runner on First, Out, Second, Double Play, C-SS, Done.

Everything worked fine.

@tacho47 - are you using the most recent version of iScore that is available on the app store?

V5.020

@Ohio
The minimize question is set to YES

Unfortunately, i can not replicate the problem on the fly, neither with minimize questions set to yes or no.

Situation:
You're scoring a game. In the 2nd Inning a DP K, CS 2-6 happens. During the game or after finish you recognize you screwed this situation up. The K stands, but the CS should have been 2-4 instead of 2-6.

By entering the Play-by-Play mode from either the game info screen or within the scoring screen try to change it. Tap the Inning, move to the Double Play and tap it. The situation editor opens. When tapping the edit button on the Double Play it's impossible to get further than retapping the double play button. Doing so, you're NOT asked to tap the players involed in the play! So, it's impossible to change the play from 2-6 to 2-4.

@ support ... does not seem to be a repeatable crash, but this post highlights previously identified shortcomings in editor (for iOS and perhaps android) when editor should ask for fielders involved in an out play like it does in main scoring but does not ( nor does editor offer same quick plays list as in main scoring screen)

Currently In editor, program prompts you for fielders involved ONLY in outs for *caught stealing, *picked off and *tagged out.
BUT DOES NOT ask for ( like it does in scoreing mode) fielders involved in double play, tripple play, force out, runner interference, hit by ball, left base path, passed runner ... All should be editable as would not impact outcome of the play, just stat assignments

@tacho47
An issue in editor is prioritized different by support than main scoring issue (original post) or a crash (follow on post). As noted above, double play should trigger 'fielder involved" questions but does not. In my view a "shortcoming" in program and i trust support will add to its list to fix in future. But In short term to correct a DP K, 2-6 to DP K, 2-4 mistake, you wil need to manually correct stat or rescore game . ( or you coukd fake the system somewhat , by swapping 2b and short in substitution mode before and then after, your choice)

P.S > If you want the best accuracy in scorecard, i would recommend game option settings as follows:..
*Record hit locations = yes
*minimize questions = No (aka asks what happen to batter-runner on first)
*scorekeeper keeping level = advance (asks if errors, throwing or fielding, and if player would have been out or not without error to help fine tune Earned runs)
