Situational App Scoring request (support responded, pending any user reply back)

Post by Wbuchanan » Sun May 28, 2017 6:12 am

2 outs, runner on First, full count, picture throws, runner steals, catcher throws down to second for an out. Umpire never called ball or strike. Tried to adjust pitch count and couldn't, tried using undo until that point in game but as soon as I added the pitch the the rest of the game was gone. Point being I should be able to adjust the count but the app should know a pitch occurred otherwise the catcher couldn't have thrown down to second

There is not a way for iScore to know that a pitch was thrown if you do not enter it. When you enter that there was a throw down to second, it will assume it was on the previous pitch that you had entered. It can not guess that another pitch was thrown.

That being said, the situation you are describing does not sound possible. You say: "2 outs, runner on First, full count, pitcher throws, runner steals, catcher throws down to second for an out".

If the pitch was thrown with a full count, there are two possibilities. If it was a strike, the batter is out and the inning ends because there are now three outs. If it was a ball, the batter is walked, and the runner on first gets forced over to second base so can not be caught stealing.

Agree w support, no way for program 'to know' without data entry.

iscore can handle the 2out, R1 situation under standard baseball rules.

I will add to support's scenarios, another possibility.. If you did not hear the ump, and If an Un caught third strike, ump would not call strike out and a 2-6 put out is legitimate possible outcome that iscore could also handle. a pitch (strike) and out at second.

Well I agree it shouldn't be possible. But it happened. It was a mess, if the Umpire called Ball, the hitter would walk but the 1st base runner left early and would have to go back, if the umpire called strike, the batter was out and the outcome of the throw down was moot..., unfortunately the umpire never called anything and the game ended not the throw down...

Now, another competing 'App' starts the pitch at the 'Pitch' button and then calls for the outcome of the pitch. I'm just saying this makes more sense... And in this case would cover the scenario as far as pitch count. As mentioned earlier, in Youth Leagues, the Pitch Count is very important.

As posted elsewhere on forum, your big issue of course is the loss of data on import and attempt to recover, viewtopic.php?f=4&t=11895 but as to the scoring of the play comment posted above, here are some thoughts.

i am confident iscore can handle your situation. If you want to try and re describe how you want it to record, I would be glad to provide play entry recommendations. ( you left it a bit ambiguous on how you wanted it scored, due to the loss of data and because of the umpire situation).

From before...
2 outs, runner on First, full count, picture throws, runner steals, catcher throws down to second for an out. Umpire never called ball or strike. Tried to adjust pitch count and couldn't, tried using undo until that point in game but as soon as I added the pitch the the rest of the game was gone....
When you say tried to adjust pitch count..., what were you trying to do accomplish? add or subtract or change what?

some examples...
  • do you want scored so stats credited to batter and pitcher with a walk, ball 4, and R1 out Catcher to Short stop at 2nd for out 3?
do you want scored so stats credited for batter & pitcher for strike 3 out ? and NOT credit the catcher to short stop for put out and assist?
do you want scored so stats credited for batter & pitcher strike 3 out ? AND do credit the catcher to short stop for put out? (4th out, )
do you want scored so stats credited for batter strike 3 but not strike out for batter or pitcher, and credit Catcher to Short stop for out 3?
do you want scored so to not give pitcher a pitch, nor strike out batter, and still credit Catcher to Short stop for out 3?
iscore can do all these scenarios and more. including some scenarios that would be wrong by rule, but not being there in person, can only respond to how you describe you want it scored. If you describe how you want the play recorded, i am confident, I can provide play entry options that will produce stats like you expect. As the play may be 'unconventional' the iscore play entry may be a bit unconventional too.

More From before...
... Point being I should be able to adjust the count but the app should know a pitch occurred otherwise the catcher couldn't have thrown down to second
there have been previous feature enhancement requests to add manual pitch count adjustment, (+/- ball strikes) to the Misc > Adjust Score feature, it is reportedly on the list of possibilities for future consideration but as a policy, iscore does not disclose future development plans. As to app knowing a pitch occurred, it can not intuit that, there are too many ways (although in frequent) a runner can be out with out a pitch occurring.
