building a team from a previous game (responded and resolved to best of abilities)

Post by GLMSAS11 » Wed Mar 08, 2017 8:47 am

Hello, i'm getting into the league feature these days, but i made a mistake and merged a few teams trying to build a team from last years team.
i have 2017 and 2016 leagues now and wondered if i could build a team from a roster from a previous game without ADDing each player from the roster?

when you add a game and select teams from the team list, but later that team is no longer in the TEAMS list, is there a way to change the team in Game Manager?

Also, i think this is just a wish list, but i've been late to several games this season and have been able to pick up the game in the 2nd inning with the ISCORE Adjust Score feature.
But after the game it would be nice to be able to enter the 1st inning after the game has ended, or even between innings, but it does let you go in and fix that.
i've had print the scorecard and then delete the game and re enter all the game from the beginning.

thanks

Merging teams is a one way non reversible process.

Is it possible, you could Re import from your last Option > Export and not loose any games and just re do the administrative stuff?

that would be my main hope..

my second hope, is if you have only option exported once since you messed up your data, there is a Chance, support could recover an archive and restore back a day or two or say 3 or so exports.

for the record, My advice to folks is to have a TEAM a season. not to get fancy with merging teams. the space saves is tiny. and i personally find, I like to know what teams did year to year.

No. We try and tell folks DO NOT delete teams, or players , they take up very little space, and reviving is not viable

I do not think so. I will think on it longer, and post a workaround idea if i come up with one for building a team backwards.. but i am not optimistic. hmm

that is an enhancement suggestion for @support

Merge is a non reversible process. (sorry). It in effect deletes the right side team (or player).

It sounds like you may have unintentionally orphaned games. (What i mean by "orphaned games" is with "all league" on, a team (and players) are in a scored game but not visible in the team manager, (or player manager) )

We all make ooops mistakes some times. that is why i am HOPING you can just revert back to your last Option > Export and not loose any game data and then just re do the administrative (non game scoring) stuff again
  • Please let me know if your last option > export was after your last scored game, ( so that all your scored games are safely stored on the admin server) and hopefully Option > Export was before your administrative adjustments.

If so, then a simple Option > Import would be your best bet, it would return you to a point after all games scored but before your team merge and roster moves.
In a scored game there is not a way to swap out a team. (you can swap out players post game through Editor and starting line up) , but not a team - once you set up a game, the teams are assigned to that game. (if you delete the team involved, they games are orphaned)
  • That said, if you have access to two devices, let me know, there may be a way to Data Share a game from one device to another and back to source device, and in the mapping process, trick the program, to associate the team to another.

yes i did an IMPORT and although it did take out my updated League work, i can reproduce that, it would be nice to have an option of what to IMPORT back TEAMS, Games, Leagues, Players

I am thrilled you were able to recover to a workable point without much pain!!
  • for those reading along, @ GLMSAS11 while doing some routine, pre season administrative tasks, setting up new teams, new rosters, and new season leagues etc. Inadvertently merged two teams and in the process unknowingly orphaned some previously scored games. Unfortunately there is not a way in score to reassign a team to a previously scored game and can not re-build a team from a previous game without just re scoring the game(s)

the program is pretty robust but it is still just an app, and can not cover ever eventuality. :(
  • The merge process (as is the delete and import process) need to be used with extreme caution (that is why you get confirmation messages) the program as an app, has limited restore capabilities. (sorry, just reality)

Food for thought, some of what i tell people when setting up iScore for new years/ seasons :geek:
  • iscore uses very little data/space, (1 song is approx equal to 20 games), so i do not delete much if anything.
    • I tend to over store, past teams and players, I do not delete them because never know when may be useful.
    • Merging teams as you found out can be tricky and create orphans, (i do not recommend team merge very often)
    • Merging players has risk too, but more correctable than teams, i do suggest you merge players on your team. but less concerend with opponent players, duplicates just take up a tiny bit of space
    • I use leagues liberally to group players, teams and games to reduce manager list clutter
  • I create a new team each year, e.g., HS Varsity 2015, HS varsity 2016. HS varsity 2017.
    • others on this forum may advocate reusing teams, and managing drops/grads with inactive player list. but I have found over time, i prefer to have a seperate team each year.
    • It takes a bit more time to start the year, to create the team and fill the roster by picking existing players from player list, but over time i have found it a better approach. I find it worth the time investment to keep years isolated.
    • you can still see a players cumulative stats, and you can easily see a teams yearly stats, without having a long roster of former or inactive players cluttering up the roster or stats
  • Leagues are wonderful, use them liberally.
    • I tend to have a common set i reuse each year Scrimmages, Regular Season, Conference, Post Season
    • Plus an overall one for season, High School 2015, High School 2016 , and High School 2017 .
    • for travel ball, i use a league for each weekend tourney , plus a general Summer 2015, Summer 2016, and summer 2017
    • liberal use of leagues works well with teams by year and with team web site subscriptions
  • Write down your user ID and password and Option > export After every scored game
    • You never know when you may break or loose your device

Q: i've built 2 more leagues 2016 and 2017 and have assigned old games to the 2016 league and put the 2016 team named Northwood Jv assigned to 2016 league. I've assigned players from that team to either 2016 league only or both for returning players. problem is when i hit team stats for the team, it's 0 for GA and nothing for pitching or fielding.
did i miss something in the league or team setup?
thanks

Remember you need to assign teams, and games as well as players to the league. I did not see any mention of assigning games to 2017 league or team to 2017 league. make sure all are done, players, teams and games assigned to the 2017 league. Also make sure you have the 2017 league enabled under league manager, when you want to see stats for 2017 games.
  • this may be obvious, but for completeness i will mention.. the "2017 team" had to be part of the "2017 games scored", (aka you can not assign a team to a game after it is scored). the players in those games need to be part of the team roster for their stats to show up under the team stats. (I assume this is all known, just mentioning it for completeness)
a way to troubleshoot and see what is what. is to turn on just the one "2017 league" (with only that 1 league on, you can see what games, teams and players have that league assigned) . then look under game manager, and see what teams in those games. then check under team manager, and see if the expected teams are here.

post back with more explanation and will be able to help better

the 2016 team name was one that i merged before and then i had to recreate it, with the same team name. and same roster of players.
i select just the 2016 league and i see the games and the teams.
