New Player Data Not Saving v 5.004 (resolved/answered)

Post by mbartschi » Fri Feb 10, 2017 7:29 pm

Since updating to the new version on iPad (love the makeover by the way), I've noticed that when I create a new player from within a team roster in "Normal" mode, the only attributes that save are the jersey number, first name, and last name. Everything else stays blank or keeps the default value no matter what I enter. As a workaround, I can save a new player with just those attributes, then immediately come back and edit, and everything will save fine. The same problem seems to exist in the Lacrosse app as well.

Also regarding the player edit screen, changes are lost if you go into the Leagues submenu and then return. I have to remember to edit the League if necessary before I change anything else. This affects the other sports' apps as well.

And finally on the subject of rosters, I noticed that the team logos I already added using the website don't appear to sync with the app, which is showing blank logos for teams that have one when I view them online. Do I need to add the logo again here? I don't normally keep all of the league logos on my iPad.

Thanks!

This may already be fixed as well with your next update, but I found another issue - I cannot change the title of the game, neither when creating it nor when updating it. It always reverts to the default based on the teams selected. This is important for me because I use the title to insert the teams' records into the e-mail when I send it to the newspaper. I suppose I can use the notes field for now and hope they think to look there.

this has been reported (on both iPad and iPhone) . i have been told it will be in upcoming update.
thanks and keep the observations coming

FYI , in the current version (v5.005) although you can not edit the game name. you can edit the name from the default when you create the game for the very first time. do this in the field at the bottom of the New Game Screen after selecting the visiting team , home team and scheduled start, and selected game options, then edit the default name, be sure and hit enter/done on iOS keyboard (not keyboard retract button) . then hit Done (upper right ) to save new name.

A-ha! There's the trick. I didn't press enter/return on the keyboard before I tapped DONE. That may not help me insert the season records (since of course I don't know that until after the game) but it will at least help me make the subject line of the e-mail more friendly. Thanks!

So, development team, that would be another good call-out when fixing this bug - it would be good if I didn't have to press Return/Enter to save the field, since that's not intuitive. Also, touching the time after changing the title resets the title.

I do have a bunch of bug reports and suggestions regarding the admin website since the apps seem to have evolved faster than the website...I just need to find time to type them all out. :-)

V 5.006 is available and editing game names now works as expected

Also it appears all the player profile data is now persistent, saves across and shows up under team roster and player manager views

Excellent, thanks for the info! I upgraded to the latest version, and as you said, player info is now sticking even when creating new players, and game titles can be edited and save properly as well. It still doesn't save any title changes when creating a new game unless Enter/Return is pressed, but I can live with that as long as I can edit.

One thing that doesn't appear to be fixed yet (but is mostly cosmetic) is that team logos and player photos aren't syncing with the device during import/export. Even though they don't appear in the app, they do appear on the iScore app and the scorecast website as soon as I load them in the admin website, which is what's really important.

On photos and logos... it is behaving as developers expect . Images don't sync over export/import. this was explained a while back, when first introduced, as a way to help on data bandwidth /data rates. And export speed..

In practice, when you add graphics on device, and are connected to internet, image uploads to admin site and is in sync.

But if you add on admin site, it will update score cast and team web site but it does not push down to handheld device, you have to put on hand held device to see on handheld device. (hope this makes sense)

Got it, that's reasonable. I can see how it's a nice feature to have for those who might want to use their mobile device running iScore to take the photos in the first place, saving a step. But I have gotten into the habit of doing that with the MPCoach app for MaxPreps, and if the photos already exist elsewhere, it is of course much easier to load them on the admin site. One way or the other, between my school's own website, MaxPreps, and iScore, I'm going to have to take the photos in one place and manually upload them to the others.

Confession. I recall this photo and logo behavior off the top of my head, because i had similar issue last week and had forgotten the quirk. I had updated the team photos and logo by using the computer and admin web site and thought an option Import would sync, but it did not. So on my phone, I went to my team web site, and click on each player photo and 'save image to my phone' to then turn around in iscore and for each player select the photo now on my phone camera roll . definitely not as straight forward as i had expected. but for one team. not a big deal
