Triple play - order of outs in book

Post by Southpaw » Mon Mar 23, 2015 2:25 pm

Minor thing and maybe it's the way I scored it.

We had an awesome triple play to end a game this weekend.

Situation - runners on the corners, no out. Batter hits a hard line drive right to the first baseman. Runners were going. First baseman catches the line drive, steps on the bag for the second out and fires to third for the third out.

I scored it out, line drive, touched 3-5, then the first question concerned the batter on third - I answered out at third, triple play, then it asked about the runner on first - I answered out at first, triple play.

The scoring in the book was fine and the first and third basemen were properly credited with the outs.

However, the order of the outs (red circled numbers) in the book is batter 1, runner on third 2, runner on first 3, when it should be batter, runner on first, runner on third.

Very minor issue, but is there a way I could have scored it to show the proper order of the outs?

You scored it correctly. We have on our enhancement list the idea of being able to rearrange the sequence of outs on a triple play, but it is a very low priority right now as the order does not have any statistical impact. The outs all occur on the same play, and the actual order is just a footnote at best. Thank you.

From the standpoint of compiling statistics, you're right. But from the standpoint of reconstructing what went on in the game - which is one of the main purposes of a scorecard - I'd venture to say you're wrong. Or at least, that I disagree with your conclusion... 8-)

Thanks!

At least my mind is at ease that I scored it properly!

User tip.

If you (and I do) care about the exact sequence, I suggest create a "note" on the play on double and Tripple play sequence.6-3, 6-2 DP etc.. The order of outs on scorecard can be "off" as pointed out by support and it is a minor annoyance, and I suspect long time before fixed .. So I use notes

Btw Congrats n the Tripple play!
