Delay option for iscorecast (needed for video streaming)

Post by brianmaas » Fri Mar 22, 2013 7:19 am

I've just started video streaming my sons' games using the Ustream app on iOS. I've created a page in which i embed the Ustream video on the left and the iscorecast mobile version on the right. It's a cool setup that you can see here.

The problem with this is that iscorecast is so fast now that it's way ahead of the Ustream video which typically has a 15 second delay or so. Of course this doesn't work out so well for the viewers because they will know what happens before they see it on video. Kinda takes the excitement out of it.

It would be great if there was a feature on both versions of iscorecast (regular and mobile) to set a delay in seconds to display the information to the viewer. It would be even better if we could specify the delay via a url variable to get them going.

I know this is an issue for a very few number of users, but I'm sure more people will be streaming in the future.

Thanks for all your great work on the app.

We will add this to our enhancement list. We have had a few users starting to stream video in this way and would love to see more doing it. Thanks for the suggestion.

I'm curious about ustream. Do you film with your phone? Does someone have to hold the phone or do you have a way to secure your phone. Cool feature for the folks who watch from home.

I'm using one of these Joby GripTight GorillaPod tripods. It's got tentacle like legs that i attach to the backstop. I have an old iPhone 4 i'm using to do the streaming. The tripod is strong enough to hold it in place even when a pitch gets past the catcher and rattles the backstop.

My whole wireless setup uses tethering from my iphone 5. I use iscore on my iPad and the video from the iphone 4. I did stream one game from my iphone 5 but i didn't like not being able to make calls or text during the game because it was attached to the fence.

The techno-geek in me loves this. I already create a wifi hot spot with my iphone to broadcast iscore on my ipad (no built-in wifi on ipad.) It's a pretty big battery drain on the phone to do this. I have to think video streaming would be a huge drain. Does it affect your iscore wifi connectivity at all? I do carry all sorts of external battery backups for the ipad and iphone already. Sometimes have to score 5 games in a day and can't always rely on a power source at the fields. Will definitely have to investigate ustream more. Was your webpage setup easy? Do you have a unique page for each game or just update with the last game?

It does take a lot of battery and data use depending on the quality of the stream. I'd say the battery life for the streaming iphone is about equal to that of the iphone creating the wifi hotspot. I use one of these monoprice usb batteries and switch off between the two devices.

I haven't seen it affect the iscore connectivity at all. That's basically why I posted this feature request because it's still almost instant.

For now i just have that one website page which i direct viewers to see the latest game. Ustream has a cap on how much data you can keep as an archive, but there's room for over 20 games if i remember correctly. All i have on that page is two iframe's, the video in one and the iscorecast in the other. The video is automatic because it will play either what is live, or if it's not live, it will display the last video recorded. I do have to login to the website and change the iscorecast link for each game.

Hey Guys..
I realize this thread is old, but hoped to get a little more information on embedding controls for streaming. I'm doing the same thing, except on LiveStream.com. I'm attempting to setup my own web page to stream the game, the box score, and I'd like to get the current player/batter information. Is there a FAQ or directions on how to embed the current batter's information?????

For equipment, I'm using a camera with an encoder. But certain gadgets make the process easier.

My camera mounts to the fence using: http://view-thru.com/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Works great! No fence in the shot, and the camera is protected. Only issue is a wide enough angel to get 1st and 3rd base.

For power, I'm using: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B009YR ... UTF8&psc=1" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

It's heavy, but I've yet to drain it.

Keeope,
Not sure if this will help you or not but I embed the mobile version of the scorecast on a web page right below the embedded live stream of the same game with an iframe. As stated in previous posts, the scorecast is usually ahead of the live stream.

You can also use an overlay of the score/inning/outs from the scorecast right on to your live stream. I don't think there is a code for just the upcoming batter and it might not sync well anyway.

Here's a link to my streaming page:

Keeope,

Not sure what camera you are using, but check out the equipment recomendation on the LynkSpyder web site:
http://www.lynkspyder.com/equipment.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

It has a recommendation for a battery that is much smaller and easier to handle, as well as being much cheaper.

We use a GoPro camera for our video, which uses the LynkSpyder to mount to the chain link fence:
