Wasted UI space on a ASUS Zenpad S 8.0 (responded)

Post by Maxtastic » Wed May 03, 2017 11:38 am

I recently upgraded from my Nexus 7 to a new ASUS Zenpad tablet. The huge thing I have noticed is a massive amount of wasted space in the UI and missing information.

When holding the tablet horizontal, I cannot see the pitch counts for each team that normally is visible. There is a massive amount of wasted space in the UI but it is not scaling well. I have made sure my font settings are at "normal" in the Android options. I have messed with everything I can think of but nothing changes the layout on this tablet.

I do know the screen resolution of this tablet is not normal, ASUS calls it a 2K resolution (2048 x 1536). I was hoping there was someway to force a different resolution for iScore or maybe a way to drag and reorganize the UI so it is better optimized for the display.

thanks for any help!

Android device come in a wide variety of sizes and it is nearly impossible to account for all sizes. We have done our best to make the screen fit as many devices as possible but with Google not giving a standard set of sizes, unfortunately some will suffer in various ways. It also does not help that manufacturers often do not report their own screen sizes properly either (changing the true DPI or pixel width / height to try and make them emulate different sizes). We will continue to do our best to try and "fit" as many screen sizes as possible, but will never be able to match them all perfectly.

Yeah I understand it's impossible to test every device, what would be nice would be a way to set the UI scale within the application. Any setting done in the Android system options has no effect on the font size or scale while using the app.

There is the option for small/large screens but that's a toggle for phones and laptops.

Having an option to adjust the scale in the app would be perfect and probably help others with different tablets and the same issue.

My understanding is the ASUS Zenpad S 8.0
is not a full size tablet.. so when i look at the screen pic, i am impressed it looks more tablet like than phone..

It's listed as a 8in tablet, it's just barely larger than my old, and dead, Nexus 7

my research suggested was closer to an "iPad mini" rather than a "iPad full size". but that was just based on research not personal experience . The reviews seem very positive for its price, value and screen quality. thanks for the pictorial post and suggestions. ( btw, I would also be curious to see iscore looks in both portrait and landscape mode, as well as light and dark skin if available ).. I hope you continue to use and contribute to the forum and community.

I am confident the developers will take note of your suggestion, device and screen size and feed it to the developers. they are very good about doing that. however, as a matter of practice, Support just doesn't comment on future plans nor commit to changes, specifically around supporting the myriad of android devices/implementations. (has been their practice since v1) . There response is pretty consistent and they tend to keep development priorities and plans close to the vest so not overpromise and underdeliver. my suspicion (not validated in anyway) is they are working on updating android version of iscore baseball to the 5.x look of iOS 5.x for a future (undefined) release..in that process they tend to address other feature/enhancement/fixes as appropriate.
