Foul out
Foul out
At a recent Diamondbacks game, the batter fouled out to the third baseman (5f). Any chance of adding a foul out button to the out buttons since I could not figure out how to score a foul out? Thanks!
Re: Foul out
It's no different than any other fly out. The fact that it was caught over foul territory doesn't change the scoring or the key presses in iScore.
Re: Foul out
Sure it changes things on the scorecard. When you print out the scoresheet it should read 6f or 2f or whatever to indicate that it was caught in foul territory instead of showing a 6 where it was caught by the shortstop in fair territory. It is the same logic as to why we separate the strikeout into a called 3rd strike and a swinging third strike. That is why I am suggesting that a foul out button should be added, especially for those of us that don't charge pitch location or where exactly the ball was hit to (deep line drive vs shallow line drive for example). I hope that better clarifies things. Thanks!
Re: Foul out
I agree. I would also like to see foul out as an option. This has been bugging me for a while. It does change the scorecard, at least the way that I was taught to score games. On the scorecard F9 would be a fly out to the right fielder, where 9F would be a catch in foul territory.

Re: Foul out
There are many ways of keeping a scorecard - every paper scorebook you find has their recommended way of doing it, and people adopt their own standards that are sometimes in line with the recommendation and sometimes not.
Our feeling is that we are showing the hit location with a drawn line, and you will be able to see it is in foul territory. You can add a note to the play if you would like and additional note that it was caught in foul territory. A future update will be adding the printing of notes to the scorecard.
Statistically, it is still nothing more than a Fly Ball Out.

Re: Foul out
I suppose we all have our preferences for how we like to see the scoresheet, but there is absolutely zero statistical difference between a batted ball caught over foul territory versus one caught over fair territory, regardless of how it is denoted on the scoresheet. How do you decide what to write when a batted ball is caught right above or very near the foul line? Not trying to criticize your preference (goodness knows, I certainly have my own); rather, I'm just trying to point out the lack of statistical distinction between these two plays.
