Team Name Changed, but iScore Central App still finds under old name (replied)

Post by rhino7170 » Wed May 31, 2017 1:11 pm

Years back I started using iscore to score my daughters travel fastpitch team and it has all worked great. We changed names a while ago and to this day when searching for the team in the iscore central app it always pulls up the old team name. Once the team is selected then everything looks fine. It's tough for new parents on the team to find us because they never knew us by that old name. Is there some way to force the app to convert to the new team name?

Great question!

Do you have a Team Website subscription?
If so there is a field on its setting page for search criteria. Try that.

I have been told, Iscore central polls multiple datasets for team search

If you dont have a team web site, post back i have some other tips that can help some

I do have a team page and the search criteria is setup correctly. The problem is when you do the search it pulls up the old name correctly, but it only lists it as the old name. It's very confusing for new parents not aware what our old name was. I would like the displayed name on the iscore central app to reflect the website name and team name as it currently is.

So on team web site, in settings, under search data you have
team = NEW TEAM NAME"
manager = NEW MANAGER NAME

In iscore central,
under TEAM : FIND TEAM
if you enter NEW TEAM NAME it pulls up what?

What i found works best is using GAME : SEARCH on game day.. then saving team as favorite and use GAME : FAVORITE most often

I have it all setup as you said and when I do a search for the current team name it pulls up the old team name.

Game search isn't an option, as we have had to password lock our games due to someone who left the team that is logging in and using it to cause havoc.

That is the only search data setting that i know of that the user can manually change. I am afraid the 'historic name artifact' re appearing is a by product of how iscore handles it's team search and look up process. (Reportedly, it polls multiple sources and apparently does not have a way prioritize team web site setting updates. So old name lives on. Support has not indicated this is going to change)

The only true fix i can think that you can do on your end, and it is not a perfect solve, is to buy a fresh new team web site subscription with an updated and now more relevant team name. I know that is not the answer you wanted and costs some money, but it is an idea you can weigh the pro / con of fan convenience.

I very much appreciate the desire to make finding your team easy and intuitive and am familiar with challenges associated with Team Find. I recommend GAME: SEARCH <team name> on Game day as the easiest option, but i have not had to password protect game scorecast either.

Remember, you can still email a game link, and If the user opens emailed link on a smart phone, it will prompt the user with a choice to open in Web or View in App.
