OK so here is the situation.

-Leadoff double.
-Hit to 3rd base, guy on 2nd reaches 3rd, meanwhile the 3rd baseman throws it away and man on 3rd scores.
-Next guy hits it up the middle and guy running to 2nd is forced out.
-exact same play as last happens again, resulting in putout at 2nd
-K

Now I scored this as an earned run, because in my opinion, the guy on 3rd would scored on the up the middle play while the guy would have been putout at first. Can the scorekeeper assume this based on what transpired or is this an unearned run?

Thanks

to fully assess earned/unearned runs. you have to 'reconstruct the inning w/ errorless play' and let that determine.

based on limited information you provided.. here is a reconstruct example.

reconstruct w/o errors
1) lead off double - no outs, runner on 2nd.

2) base hit, Advances runners to first and third - no outs , runners on 1st and 3rd

3) Fielders choice (e.g. 6-4)) . but Runner at 3rd scores (earned), and runner from 1st forced out, - runner at 1st and 1 out (not seeing the play I am assuming hits it up the middle would have advanced the runner from 3, if not then Hold him at 3. )

4) fielders choice (e.g 6-4) . Runner from 1st forced out, (2nd out) and batter held up at 1st - runner at 1st and 2 out
(if you thought the first hit up the middle was not sufficient to advance the runner, would have to make an educated guess if the second hit up the middle would have scored the runner, given the totality of the situation, game score, runner speed, outs , ball hit location etc. )

5) Batter strikes out - 3rd out.
