Battery life?
Battery life?
I use iscore on an iPad mini and can get about 2 games out of a full charge. This is a problem when we play 3 games in a row on Sunday! I am using cellular data to scorecast the game, but I've done games without scorecast and it seems to be about the same. Is this typical for other users?
I wonder if the iscore developers have optimized for battery life?

Re: Battery life?
It sounds like you have the brightness of your display way up. iScore itself uses very little battery. We have scored 5 games on a single charge in a day on an iPad mini and had battery to spare. Turn the brightness of your display down as much as you can bear, and your battery will last much longer.

Re: Battery life?
Should qualify the 5 games... it was 5 softball games that are under 2 hours each. The battery life of the iPad is in the vicinity of 10 hours on a full charge. iScore has very little effect on that length of time. It is the Display screen as noted that uses the most battery, so keeping the display as dim as you are able to use the iPad will get you the longest battery life. Internet connectivity is second behind display, but even with iScorecast enabled, very little internet traffic is generated (a complete game is < 300KB of data transmitted).

Re: Battery life?
I too am only getting two to three games out of an iPad mini charge. Mind you, the mini is a couple of years old and the battery may not be the Li-ion it once was. When I do this, I'm also using a Bluetooth tether to my phone to provide a network link.
I end up using a little booster to get me through the extra games. In my case, I use a travel router that will set up a personal WiFi for me in the hotel room and has a 3200mAh battery that I can use to charge the iPad on the fly. I can usually coax an extra two games out of this. You could also use a battery backup like this one from http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00M4PYYHE?psc=1. Be sure that the device you buy has the capability to charge an iPad as their electrical draw is higher than most phones. You'll need at least 1A, and the 2+ amp versions would be better. There are also Bluetooth speakers that will provide a charge for you in the field and you can play walk-up music when your player comes to the plate.

I use an ipad mini, I found that using the 'Light' background setting, I can set the brightness down a lot lower. You might be already doing this.
I also carry a portable battery that can extend the battery life. The kid uses it and keeps forgetting to recharge the thing.

Re: Battery life?
I can get 3 games in on an ipad Mini with Retina. This is U8 so the games are 1h 40m. At the end of the 3rd game I will be sitting at 20%. I also hotspot my phone so its connected to wireless the whole time.
Also I do what mrj1172 said above, for tournaments I carry my backup battery and I borrow one from another family on the team so I can have the ipad and my iphone charging either between games or for the last few.

Re: Battery life?
I get 4 softball games with scorecast out of a Kindle HDX 8.9.
For times when I know there's a possibility of many games in the day, I make sure I bring my external battery pack. Give the Kindle a boost along with my phone, which is acting as a WiFi Access Point.
