Batter stepped on plate
In softball, how do you score when the batter is called out for stepping on the plate?

Out, Out of Box. Stepping out of the batter's box is the actual reason for the out.

Re: Batter stepped on plate
Yes batter is out for stepping out of batter's box. But not everyone is aware that there is no rule regarding stepping on plate? By rule, as long as your foot is in contact with the line of the batter's box you are still considered in the box. In other words, you could actually have your heel on the line and toe on the plate and no call should be made. In addition, your entire foot must be out of the box AND in contact with the ground at the time of contact with the ball to be called out. If foot is still in air at time of hit no call should be made. This is one of the most misunderstood and misinterpreted rules.
