For now you would have to do an Advance on Error, and assign the assist post game by editing stats directly.

Our next iOS updates includes the ability to assign assists on plays that resulted in advance on error without having to edit stats directly.

So, is the implication here that if a grounder is hit to SS, SS makes a good throw to 1B, and 1B drops the ball, that the SS would still get an assist?

Related question (cause it hasn't happened yet, but probably will): what is the proper scoring for:

a) dropped third strike, catcher picks up ball and makes a bad throw

b) dropped third strike, catcher picks up ball, makes a good throw, 1B drops the throw

does the pitcher still get credit for the K in either case? is this why you have to indicate strike 3 first on the main scoring page, and then again on the followup screen?

Yes to your first question --- SS should get an assist

For both "a" and "b" you would enter the strikeout, then select Safe, Dropped Third Strike, Held Up.

A throwing error or fielding error does not negate the reason for the Batter going to first base being the dropped strike.

If the throwing or fielding error allowed the Batter-runner to go to second base, then instead of Held Up, you would enter Safe, Second, Error on Catcher in your "a" scenario, or Safe, Second, Error on 1B in your "b" scenario.

In that case (answer to first question = yes), the Android version doesn't correctly record that assist either, unless there's a way to score it that I haven't figured out. For that play:

In Play, Error, Medium/Grounder directed to SS area,
"tap player who made the error", tap 1B

Anything else I could have done?

That is correct... iScore does not currently have a way to automatically assign an assist on a dropped throw. You would have to override the Assists in stats post game.
