Scoring with written scorebook, then transfer to iScore?

My son's 12U travel baseball season is now in full-swing. We have played two games thus far and I have scored both games using iScore. We also have one our coaches keeping a written scorebook, as well...as a back-up. The first game went reasonably well...though I did make a couple of minor mistakes, but was able to go back and make the corrections in iScore. However, during the second game, I messed up and by the time I was able to figure things out, I was way behind the game and decided to halt using iScore. The good thing is that I was able to take the written scorebook and enter the information into iScore... quite easily. So, this experience has me thinking...perhaps we should just score each live game usinig the written scorebook and then transfer the game information into iScore at the end of each game. Anyone out there using iScore in this manner?

It is nice to be able to enter games from a traditional scorebook when necessary. However, I would encourage you to stick with doing the games in iScore in real time.

There is a bit of a learning curve, but its not steep. In no time you will find it easier to use than paper and pencil. By sticking with it, you will save yourself from having to re-enter the games plus be able to use other features like the live iscorecast.

I've tried recreating games from scorebooks kept by other people and it's not pretty. Usually the book is done by one or more of the moms whose goal is just to get the outs and runs right. Many of the nuances are missing. The balls/strikes are kept, but not the order the were pitched in. There is no distinguishing between stolen bases and wild pitches. No distinguishing between a line drive and a soft flyball. RBI's are a bit shaky.

I prefer to score each game as it happens. That way, even if I interpret something differently than someone else might, at least I know it's all being done consistently throughout the season.

And, as mprusak mentioned, the parents who can't make it to the tournaments are absolutely LOVING the live scorecasting.

I did the same thing for our softball team last year. I started using iscore about midway thru the season so I had to try and "decipher" the written scorebooks done by someone else. I too had a few times where I got behind due to making a mistake and having to edit it in game. Once you do it more like anything with practice you get better, so don't give up yet.
