How to start scoring a different team and season?

Post by kbpadgett » Fri Aug 26, 2011 7:58 pm

I've been scoring my son's team's games, and now the season is over. He is starting on a new fall ball team (tomorrow) and I would like to begin scoring this new team, set up a new web site and maintain the stats. How can I totally separate the two teams? Can I purchase another app, dedicate it to the new fall ball team and set up a new web site for this team and parents? I only have one device to score on--my iPad 2.

This is no problem. iscore handles it well.
( Many of us have dozens of teams spanning multiple leagues and seasons on a single device)

The iscore app can handle virtually unlimited teams amd seasons with the use of league manager. No need to buy another copy of the app. sounds like you want to create a fully seperate team web site for fall (i recomend this). You will simply create a new team on your device, add past and new players and then purchase a Team web site subscription. ($20) for the new team. ..

Below are further instructions and tips..

Tip: do not delete the old team, players or games. I recommend keeping them indefinitely, iscore has the ability to track players over time this way..

1. If you have not already learned how to use leagues, now is the time, you will want to create a league for 'summer 2011' and a league for 'fall 2011'.

2. With "all" league on, do some house cleaning....go through game manger, and team manager and assign all of your summer games, and teams (and optionally players) to league ' summer 2011'.

3. A. create a new team for 'fall team' and assign it to the new 'fall league2011'.

3.b With "all" league on, complete the new team roster by picking existing players from the pick wheel or create new players. (By picking the player vs creating new, you will link their stats from prior seasons and years)

4. Now turn off all but the " fall 2011" league,.. To hide everything not in fall 2011

5 option > export ... To post the new team and your database to the admin servers

6 buy a new team web site subscription (if you want..)
on apple device, you can buy from within the app (team manage > select team > web site) . or for all devices you can purchase from the admin web site

7. Score your games with the new team, and option > export after every game to update web site..

FYI, if later you review a players card from player manager, you can see cumulative stats for what ever leagues you have enabled.. Eg , summer 2011 and fall 2011 combined, or just fall 2011 if only that league enabled..

Hope this covers it all.. Post back if you need more info

Thank you so much! That makes perfect sense and I've now gone through and done my clean up and set up the league and team for Fall Ball 2011. It really is an amazing app!

One last question for clarification. I will set up a different web site for this team, but I'm assuming that the iScorecast customer ID number that I'll share with the new Fall Ball parents is the same customer ID number that was shared with the old team. Therefore, over time, any parents who have received the ID number can watch whatever games are being i-scorecasted. Probably not a big deal, but I just wondered if there is anyway to have different iScorecast destinations/ customer ID numbers for the different seasons?

Thanks again. I'm headed to game 1 of the season now!

You are correct that it is the same Customer ID, and all the old games will show as well. As an fyi, if you have team website, instead of entering your customer ID, you can have them enter the name of the team website (the x's in your URL http://iscorebaseball.com/xxxxxx" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;). We will be making this list only the games for that particular team.

That sounds like it would be a perfect solution, but I must not be doing it right. I purchased and set up a new team web site for the Fall 2011 team. However, when I go to http://iscorecast.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; and am prompted for the Customer ID, if I put in the team web site address instead, I get an error message of invalid customer ID. When I put in my device's Customer ID, it works. Am I missing a step for how to make it work with the team web site address?

You would not put in the whole team website address, just the last part. So if your team website url was "http://iscorebaseball.com/bestteamever", then in the http://iscorecast.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; prompt, you would just enter "bestteamever". If that is not working for you for a team website name, please email us at support@iscoresports.com with the URL of your team website and we will take a look.

FTM, I like this idea a lot!! x2!!

iscorecasts menu listings filtered based on the web site team name (instead of customer ID) entered in the iscorecast.com log in page. (e.g. enter device id = see all iscorecasts on the device, enter my daughters team name = see only her teams game casts, enter my sons team name = see only his teams iscorecasts). That would be nice. (as it is now i point parents to web page, game tab, and by pass the iscorecast menu, because it is cluttered at any given time with multiple teams)

that said, I just tested and is not filtering by team.. entering the team name works but it shows the entire device list, unfiltered (eg enter my daughter and son team names, each works but shows the entire device game list, not filtering. )

that said, I still think the option to guest password protect after entering the team name (or customer ID), is a good idea. (team names are publicly available through search). i would have the password verification, after the id entry screen. and I would have it mimic the guest and admin passwords used on team web site, in fact same password.

...
while on the topic of passwords .. Data Sharing.. I am now reluctant to data share with opponents because they have access to my entire database. Was wondering if consideration has been given to different password scheme for data sharing. not sure how this would work, would like to be able to limit what games a guest can have access to. .. sounds liek a more complicated problem, but thought i would mention it while on the password subject

Thanks FTM--using only the team name did get me access into the scorecast viewer.

I just want to second the comments by OhioTex above. It would be wonderful if it would filter by team! For now I have just removed all of the old season teams off of iscorecast, but preferably, it would be ideal to for each team to be able to only get to their games.

I also like the idea of a guest password after the team name for further protection.

Regardless, I'm thrilled with the help both FTM & OhioTex have provided and I love the app!
