Scoring a Hit and Run
Scoring a Hit and Run
Hi everyone,
I am using ISCORE on an IPAD and at times have been asked to score properly for a hit and run. The coaches would prefer not to have a hit and run affect the batters batting average as they are swinging on whatever pitch they get just to get the runners into scoring position.
This, in my opinion, is no different than a SAC Bunt, or a SAC Fly, but there is nothing on the program to indicate this type of signal.
Any ideas on how to score this
Thanks

Re: Scoring a Hit and Run
We have never seen a rule saying a hit and run should not count toward batting average. If you have a reference on the web showing that, we would like to see it.

Re: Scoring a Hit and Run
Runner breaks for next base, and batter will be swinging at the pitch no matter what.

And as FTM said, it is always counted towards a player's batting stats if for no other reason than that a scorer will typically not know when the hit and run is on.

Re: Scoring a Hit and Run
The coach would be wrong. (FYi if he asks a batter to take a pitch, it counts too. )

Re: Scoring a Hit and Run
Agree. The coach is wrong. Plus, if the batter gets a hit and run signal, he's supposed to get a hit, not an out! So yes, the results will count for or against him. It's not a SAC.
Re: Scoring a Hit and Run
coaches are human too, just like UMPs it seems.
