League and Team Management

I like to keep my leagues organized by years. Each year I create a league with a suffix of the year. With the MLB package, for example, I import the rosters and then change the team names with the year suffix. This works seamlessly with MLB leagues. However, with NCAA baseball, I created a league and then tried to import the rosters and the tool said I already had this team, and asked if I would like to update it. If I say yes, it updates the previous years team, if I say no, it does nothing and does not import anything. I'd prefer to leave the previous years team as it was, and import the teams fresh into a new year version.

Is there a work around for this? Or will I be forced to manually create the teams and rosters?

I will share my approach w ncaa teams.. bottom line is i do both - new teams manually and new teams by discovery. Not ideal, but in reality use both methods .

I had similar desire - to have a team per year and augment with discovery but ran into same frustration w NCAA rosters merging .

So for some teams (mainly conference foes who we play 4 times a year) i would create new teams each year and add returnees by pick list and manually add in freshmen .

this year i often had less than 100% teams available by discovery ..( noticeably worse this year than i can recall before - probably 10-20% not available - no players found)

I also use leagues liberally - new league each year w fall, pre season, regular season, conference and post season sub leagues )

Current year team name - just team name eg, UCLA... then at end of year add year on end . Previous years UCLA 2018, UCLA 2017,

Some teams i discover, and yes it merges, i then have to go through and clean up - move graduates/transfers to inactive.

I also like to have YR after name ie chris Smith -Jr or pat jones -sr . To do that is a manual process when .. i go in and add or update to FR to Soph to Jr to Sr. And even tag 2018 if that was last year.

Thanks for the reply and ideas. Looks like you and I use the same methodologies. I also use sub leagues for postseason, interleague etc...all by year as well.

One thing I did not understand your post:

"So for some teams (mainly conference foes who we play 4 times a year) i would create new teams each year and add returnees by pick list and manually add in freshmen ."

Is "pick list" referring to having a previous years league turned on so you can populate the rosters by picking previous years players that are still on the roster and as you said, add freshmen manually? I assume so. I guess that's the best option at this point.

As to the discovery method having so many missing NCAA rosters, is that something the developers have control over? Where do they get the rosters from?

Anyway, thanks again for the help.

This issue still bothers me.

It defeats the whole purpose of the leagues.

Is there any possibility that this link can be removed so that importing a roster into a new league/team will not connect it with a team in another league?

If not, why not provide a file import option.

I Don’t expect any developer attention or change..
