I have no idea how to score this in the app...

Batter hits a foul pop-up to the third baseman, who drops it (error). Two pitches later, the batter doubles and later scores.

According to the rules, that's an unearned run because he shouldn't have reached base... but the batter should also be credited with a hit.

Any ideas how I enter this into the iScore app? Right now, it's showing up as an earned run against our pitcher.

FTM has posted elsewhere In the forum, a future release (no time table given) will allow user to edit / over ride automatic assignment of unearned / earned runs. For now you are stuck with the tradeoff you discovered. You can assign the misc error on the foul. But i think the later run will be curently recorded as earned. The program does a pretty good job of assigning them in most cases but a number of situations have surfaced where it may need manual adjustments and as such they are addressing adding that function in future version.so for now no perfect answer that I have seen

I have found that if you use "held up" instead of "advanced by batter" when recording runs it will record those runs as unearned.
I haven't fully tested all the scenarios, but this has been working for me. If the runner on second advanced home due to the following batter's hit, do not use "advanced by batter" and see what you get in that scenario.

NCAA rules say earned runs are the result of hits, etc., but then goes on to say the run is unearned if, when reconstructing the inning (without errors), the runner should not have been on base to begin with.
I tend to chalk everything up to "In the Judgement of the Score Keeper...." Seems to solve most discussions.

It has been my understanding that "held up" and "advanced by batter" were interchangeable. ...no difference... Will be interested to hear from FTM if there is a programming reason why would be a difference in earned / unearned.. If so will need to change my behavior and be much more disciplined in when I use held up... Nice call out coach thunder...

Just entered and scored the following situation:
B1 foul-ball - dropped by F3 - Misc - Assign Error E3
B1 In-Play - Hit double - held up
B2 In-Play - Hit Double - What happend to R1 at 2nd - Home, Safe, Held-up.
What happened to B2 - held-up.

Misc - End Game

Check Stats - Pitcher shows R = 1, RA = 1, ER = 0, ERA = 0, ERG = 0, H = 2

B2 is credited with an RBI.

EDIT:
Just scored the same as above, but switched "Held Up" with "Advanced by Batter". There was NO CHANGE in the pitching stats. Looks like the app is picking up the Assigned Error correctly. You may be correct in how HU and ABB are working.

Held Up and Advanced by Batter are treated the same by iScore.

The numbers all look correct to us in the scenario CSThunderCoach provided. The run would not be earned if the batter should have been out, but an RBI is still credited. This all seems as expected.

Holy cow, I've been cheating my pitchers. Scored 40 games last season and so far this year 65 games and have missed this one altogether! Sorry pitchers!

Now that its called to my attention, dropped foul balls are still errors and any runs after that error should not be counted against my pitcher. Sorry boys! I'll keep learning and trying to be a better scorekeeper. Thanks MacGrad for asking the question.

One question for FTM, I cannot tell from your response but if I enter it as an error by whomever dropped the foul ball, iScore will handle the stats correctly, right?

Yes... if an error is entered using Misc->Assign Error (i.e. dropped foul ball), then iScore will treat subsequent action as it would if that batter reached by error (i.e. a hit after a dropped foul ball is treated as reached on error for earned run calculations... it is still a Hit for batter statistics).

caution on use of misc Error, currently that is not editable in pitch by pitch, hopefully that will be corrected in future release.

Nevermind, I read it wrong. I thought it said the runner scored two pitches later, not the batter. Forget what I said
