QAB 1% QAB 2% QAB 3%

Post by Brc4 » Mon Oct 01, 2018 9:23 am

Trying to understand how this stat is calculated and how we can modify choices to reflect what we want as coaches. In drop down we have put a check next to all the items we identify as a QAB for our age group.
Any hit, hard hit ball, walk, HBP, Sac, 6+ pitch at bat, etc.
However when we see the #’s that post when it’s calculated it does not always match the selected result. For example we had a player that drew a walk each of his 3 times at bat. His QAB% was below 100%. Any clarification or explanation would be appreciated as well as any suggestions... Thank you !

You seem to be on right track. They are customizable stats. Just double check your work. (Make sure all leagues on) Without having your data I can not trouble shoot specifics

I have not seen any posts suggesting when used correctly it is not accurate

Re: Courtesy Runner for Catcher / Pitcher

Post by Brc4 » Mon Oct 08, 2018 5:34 pm

What’s the best way to reflect courtesy runner when necessary for Catcher / Pitcher ? Tap baserunner and hit pinch runner and just pick player in lineup/roster who will be the runner? Many times for our age group it is the last batted out so wasn’t sure if selecting pinch runner drop down had any adverse effect on lineup or any other adverse stat ? Thank you

Dead Ball

Post by Brc4 » Mon Oct 08, 2018 5:39 pm

Opposing hitter crushed a one-hop line drive directly into the 2nd base umpire’s foot. There was a runner on second base. I immediately yelled “dead ball”. Home plate umpire said it was a live ball and allowed the runner at 2nd to advance to 3rd. Is there a drop down / entry for dead ball and any suggestions how to score / record this ? Thank you.

After you tap the runner Icon, There is a courtesy runner button ( in addition to and slightly different than a pinch runner button). When you tap courtesy runner it will next show you who was last and second to last out . This is not a permanant substitution , the player will revert back at end of inning

It was not a ‘dead ball’ . It was a hit and advances runners . You can add a note to play to describe the perculiarlty, but at end of day batter statistically hit a hit and runner advanced due to batter.

Semi related
In NLCS this weekend Ryan Braun as a baserunner got hit in foot by batted ball running from 1st to 2nd . Batter
Credited a hit and player closest to runner credited pit out

Re: Dead Ball / Infield Umpire

Post by Brc4 » Tue Oct 09, 2018 4:21 am

For my understanding and if it occurs again - batted ball off of infield umpire is “live” not dead, scored either a hit or if it were to hit off umpire and take fortuitous bounce to infielder who then throws out hitter or runner on base it could be out? Either way runner(s) advance ?
It was my understanding it was a dead ball upon hitting umpire.

Thank you Ohio Tex.

The umpire is in the infield between 2nd and 3rd not out in the outfield grass / edge of infield. It’s my understanding if it hits the umpire in that field location it’s a live ball. However if it hits umpire in the infield it’s a dead ball - batter gets a hit and runners advance one base. Is that correct ? Thanks again Ohio Tex

In a nutshell., If an umpire on the bases is hit by a batted ball after the ball touches or passes an infielder (ignore the pitcher) – live ball. If umpire on the bases is hit by a batted ball before the ball touches or passes an infielder (except the pitcher ), you have umpire interference. The Umpire should call Time and interference on himself Award the batter-runner first base. Other runners advance only if forced.

If you want to do more research in MLB rule book. .. here are sections to review.
5.06(c)(6) Fair batted ball touches umpire in fair territory
5.05(b)(4) Fair batted ball touches umpire before passing a fielder
5.05(a)(4) Fair batted ball touches umpire after passing a fielder
6.01(f) Umpire accidentally touched by thrown ball
