I just imported roster 40 teams for our high school state softball tournament from Tourney Machine. Right now there is no gender designation for any of the players. When I set up the games for online play-by-play, do the players default to males or will I have to go through each player and designate them as female?

If you set the scoring mode to Softball, it will default all players that don't have a gender designation to female.
