Re: How to Score this Double Play

(moderator note: Made a FAQ TIP, although for specific bases loaded situation, Can be applied to a variety of double play fielders choice combinations )
Fielders choice w Double Plays are one of the most challenging plays to enter correctly for stats in iscore.
there is even a special section on it in the User Manual >> . https://docs.google.com/document/d/1B65 ... sz3bedh9gk But your exact situation is not specifically covered in the manual.. so here you go in detail.
SHORT ANSWER
The generalized answer is to Use DOUBLE PLAY button on a double play and tap only fielders involved with an OUT on a fielders choice.
(it may not flow as intuitive as standard plays and take more taps then a 'quick play' but it will produce correct stats and play by play description)
FURTHER EXPLANATION
SITUATION
0) Bases loaded, 1 out, ground ball hit to third baseman.
1) You want to score an unassisted force out at third by third baseman (credit a put out to 3B) for Out#2 followed by a 5-2 tag out at home (credit the 3B with assist, and Catcher with put out) for out number 3 of the inning. and both 3rd baseman and Catcher credit for DP out
2) the batter should be assigned a Fielders Choice, and grounding into a double play ( GDP Statistic) !
3) the scorecard should reflect the runner from 2nd, forced out at third as out#2 and the runner at 3rd, tagged out at home as out#3.
( more on scorecard in commentary)
4) the scorecast play-by-play should reflect above.
ISCORE ENTRY
IN PLAY > FIELDERS CHOICE > Hit Location , Med, Grounder, NEXT > 3B(5), 3B(5), C(2) DONE > OUT , HOME, TAGGED OUT > 3B(5), 3B(5), C(2) DONE > OUT THIRD, DOUBLE PLAY.
scorecast output:
Batter <#, BatterName> hits to third baseman <#, Fielder Name> on the throw from third baseman to catcher <#,Catcher name>. <#, Runner Name> is tagged out at home. DOUBLE PLAY!
caveat out Sequence on Scorecard
The out order on scorecard will not be correct. (2nd and 3rd outs are flipped). This is a small known bug to developers (as reported on forum). Normally a quick play will correct that, but as you know there is not a quick in play for this fielders choice 5-2 scenario.
FC DP ENTRY COMMENTARY
* For Double Plays, Using the DOUBLE PLAY button is the Key for correct double play stats. (it credits the two put outs, the assist and sets the DP and GDP stats).
* For fielders Choices, taping only the fielders evolved in an out (not part of this scenario, but if you have a reach on fielders choice and no out made, you would skip tapping any fielders involved with play and instead tap done and then clarify using notes. eg FC 5-2 Safe or something like that)
* In the entry sequence above, "tap fielders involved" , I suggest tap 5, 5-2 (technically, you can do just 5-2), But for me makes sense to do 5, 5-2. the program decodes correctly. Yes the program asks you a second time to tap fielders as you pointed out, the second entry is technically not needed, but i just repeat as a habit 5,5-2. a small bug/quark.
* Over the years, There have been multiple discussions on this forum on challanges for fielders Choice and DP entry and ideas on ways to make entry more intuitive -- quick plays was the initial response for Common Double plays, but the number of DP and FC scenarios is too large to include all combination, the developers have said before a more complete fix is on their list for future consideration but necessarily a priority.
* the above entry method is the practice i would enter to get the statistics and play -by- play and i just live with a minor annoyance on the quarks. .
