What to do if a player leaves the game

First things first: THANKS!!!! for making this app! I have volunteered to score my son's Little League games the last few years and iScore is way more relaxing and accurate to deal with than paper.
What is the best way to handle a player leaving a game?
In my son's league there are 12 players on a team and 10 fielders but all 12 players must bat. On a few occasions a player has left mid-way through a game due to injury (or who knows what), but none of their missed at-bats are scored as outs.
So far I've tried:
a) changing the player's status to does not bat but this seems to drop him from the scorecard at the end (not good).
b) misc:skip batter with no out. This works OK but then I have to remember to do it for the rest of the game (which isn't as easy to do as it sounds because I can't always see jersey numbers).
Is there another/better way to do this?
