TIP: How to Password Protect and Restrict iScoreCast and Central Viewer Game Broadcasts - FAQ

Post by OhioTex » Fri Apr 21, 2017 6:33 am

A user recently raised questions on how to password protect play by play broadcasts and it prompted me to create this sticky FAQ
(Ref: viewtopic.php?f=5&t=11774)

First, to broadcast live play-by-play, you must enable iScorecast on your scoring device under options and have a valid internet connection.

To restrict or password protect viewing of play-by-play broadcast...
  • a) If you do not want any users to have access to live play-by-play broadcast, simply turn off the iscorecast feature under main Options menu . additionally, you can delete iScorecasts from your device by Game Manager > Select Game > Scroll Down > Delete iScoreCast

    b) To restrict (password protect) web browser viewing at iscorecast.com...
    • You can password protect individual games from your admin web site
my.iscorecentral.com > Log in> games tab > iscorecast button > choose 'padlock icon'
    • click on a padlock icon and it will prompt you for a password that will be required for any fans to view game on iscorecast.com (on any web browser)
( FYI - On that same admin web site page, you can also delete iscorecasts)

    d) To restrict viewing on the separate companion "iScore Central Viewer" App (blue icon)...
    • That same padlock icon process restricts viewing in the "iScore Central Viewer" App but in a different (non password) way ...
    • For "iScore Central Viewer App (blue icon)", the padlock functionally 'removes' the game from search results in the Central Viewer App. (aka it does not add a password field, it just hides the game from users). Even if team is a favorite for a premium subscriber, a 'padlocked' game will just 'not show up' in search or favorites in the Central Viewer app.
    • However, the scorekeeper can still email someone the dedicated game link invitation (aka "send email link" from your device), And even when 'padlocked' the fan can click the provided link, open game in the central viewer app (blue icon) and view without having to enter a password. The intent here seems to be authorized users would get a game link and not have to also have a password

Hope this helps

Just need clarification concerning the iScore Central Viewer App.....

When I padlock a game, I do see that it doesn't show up in search results when you do a "Game Search" in the iScore Central App. However, if someone does a "Team Search", they can click on our team and all of our games are listed and the iScorecasts can be viewed by clicking on any of the listed games, even though I've padlocked the games.

It doesn't seem like hiding the games from the "Game Search" does much good if they can still do a "Team Search" and get to the games anyhow.

good point/find. (i rarely use the TEAM > FIND TEAM )

if you have a Team Web Site subscription, and enable the Password Protection for Games in settings (on team web site page), the password protection will 'carry over' to Central Viewer app .

extended commentary
for teams with out a team web site subscription, this may be a gap in program evolution, (support developers will have to chime in) . I believe original version of Central Viewer App, TEAMS only accessed teams with a Team Web Site subscription. If my recollection serves me correctly, the developers 'opened up' search to include all teams based on customer feedback.
