How to Transfer Team Created on Admin Site to iPad & how to remove duplicate players (resolved)

Post by TimSonefelt » Wed Mar 08, 2017 5:50 pm

Hello, I have been scoring our Varsity games just fine. We have the website set up and stats are accumulating properly. This Friday I have to score our JV games starting Friday. I have created the JV team and roster on my computer and was going to add those games, but realized that I have to do that in the ipad app. When I go to the iPad app, the JV team that I created isn't showing up. How do I get that team to show up.

Another related question: we will have a few players who play both JV and Varsity. Will their stats accumulate across teams? Is there a way to keep it from doing that if it does?

Thanks!

your situation is common. Using 1 ipad to score multiple teams - e.g. fresh, jv, varsity. Also common to have some Players playing on JV and varsity. Iscore handles it fine.

However, the app is the heart of iscore, not the my.iscorecetral.com admin site.

Normally data flows from IPAD to Admin site by Option > Export . You can "option > import" data changed made on admin site to ipad, but there is risk, you have to be 100% certain the admin site was up to date, because the "option > import" process will overwrite (not merge) the data on ipad . Anything not previously exported will be lost forever.

The safest way would to be create the JV team directly on the IPad. And then option > export to update web site.. This also helps not diplicate players. When you create the JV team roster, if any varsity or other players aleady exist on the ipad you would add them by plus sign (not create new) and pick player from existing list. Protecting from duplicating players

Yes same Player can be on JV roster and varsity roster ( in team manager). Can even have different jersey numbers.

As long as player is on a team roster, When you look at team stats under team mamager, his stats are included for that teams games . If you look at Player stats under player manager, you will see cumulative stats for all teams. you can use leagues to filter subsets.

If you need more specific info on
Creating teams or Creating leagues or other questions.. just post back

To be safe at this point, you should probably just "Data Share" the team so you don't overwrite the data already on your device. To do this, go to Options -> Data Sharing on your device, and select Get from Web Database. Enter your customer ID and password (as seen on the Options screen) and you will be able to select the team you created on the Admin Website to import.

Great Point Support :!:
( i totally skipped over that approach -- brain freeze).

@timsonefelt-

Here are the steps:
From iPad, open iscore > tap option > data share > get from web > enter device id and password, > scroll down and select team > map existing players > verify and import = done.

data shareing will be the fastest and easiest way way to transfer the JV team work you did on admin website to your varsity ipad device.

In the data share process, during 'mapping', if you have any varsity players that you have on JV roster, you will want to 'map' them to corresponding varsity players already on the iPad.

The statemets in prior post still stand on stats and leagues. With proper use of rosters and leagues you can easily separate players stats by level JV or varsity

After you data share, don't forget to update your web site with "option > export"

OK, I'll try the data sharing option. Sounds like even I could manage that. I do have another related question since it was mentioned above...

I have my entire varsity roster duplicated. I think it is because I had them on the site and also keyed them into the ipad. Since we've played several games I don't want to lose any stats but would like to be sure to delete the ones that aren't used/active. Is there a way to determine which ones the stats are associated with?

Sorry for all the trouble...

Importing them through the data sharing worked perfectly. I now have that team in my ipad. THANKS!!

glad the team transfer went smoothly ( data sharing was the easy way to go). Glad to help on the new question, "Duplicate Players" .. but will take a bit of explaining... pardon the length ..See below

You will correct this on the iPAD (not the admin site, my.iscorecentral.com)

On iPad the steps are:
1) Start with Option > Export
  • i.e. create a back up on web in case something goes wrong, it won't but good safety measure
2) League Manager > Enable "ALL" league
  • this is good for trouble shooting, as we get to see Everything on the device, nothing masked
3) Team Manager - Check to be sure only one 2017 varsity team
  • if varsity team is duplicated, PAUSE and post back, I want to work on that before duplicate players
4) Player Manager,
  • the goal is to identify any players that are unintentionally duplicated, and then use the MERGE function
the strategy is to use merge not delete as a safety net to be sure nothing lost
  • How ? Player Manager > tap the Merge button (bottom left button) > highlight the GOOD player on the left, > highlight the redundant version of player on the right. .. this will merge the "poor" right version into the "good" left version. Only one player results in the end . (past games and rosters are updated accordingly in the background with the surviving player)
  • you may ask, "how critical is i get that good/bad left/right correct" and "how do i know which is the GOOD version of a duplicate player", .
    • that answer Depends and is a bit more tricky... but genenerally not critical if..
    • If you do not data share your players with an external partner, player team site, 3rd party analytical servive, or use team/player discovery for your team, then not critical (i.e. the left/right precision is intended to keep the underlying internal player identifier of surving player in sync with third parties. if you do not sync with third parties. not critical to be perfect here on right/left)
    • the best way to figure out which player is Good or Redundant, is simply to manually review each player on a player-by-player basis by tapping on their stats, and see which has the legitimate games (good) or none (duplicate version)
    • TIP - For players that you identify as good or bad, I find helpful to add something to their name to help keep them straight for merge. a simple "Replace" at end of a redundant name makes the player Merge process more comforting
    • TIP - you can speed the process of reviewing players by going through the Team Roster in Team Manager or filtering player manager list by appropriate leagues.

FYI here is a link to the user manual if you want more research on Player Manager and Merge http://iscoreleagues.com/manual/#1b409e ... 2fb2733557

In the interim, I looked at the player manager and saw that for each duplicate, one was assigned to a team and had stats, and one wasn't. I removed the one that wasn't assigned to a team and left the one with stats. Seems to be fine. Thanks for the help!
