Help on how to score this (answered)

Post by Echidnet » Mon Jan 09, 2017 10:52 pm

Runner 1 on 1st
Batter hits to 2nd Base who throws to SS for force out
SS throws a wild throw to 1st base and batter-runner is safe at 1st

All advice would be appreciated.

Thanks

Key strokes/taps on scoring screen ...

In Play > Fielders Choice > type and location (if enabled*) Next > 2B - SS Done > Out - Second - force (aka What happen to Runner on First ?) > Safe- first Held UP (aka what happen to batter?)

this is a pure fielder's choice play, the batter has an official at bat and will not get credited with a hit. second basemen gets credited with an assist, and the SS the put out. you may be asking if an error should be assigned to SS b/c of the wild throw -- but as described = NO .
In general, official scoring rules for baseball do not presume a double play and as such would not assign an error on the wild throw by SS. there are of course some exceptions, e.g a dead on throw by SS and blatant drop by first baseman, but that was not your description. so scoring is a fielders choice.

* if enabled - I have Settings (tool icon, lower right of scoring screen) set to * Record Hit Locations , * Scorekeeper = Advance, and * Minimize Questions =NO
(Although some of these are not default settings when you download the app, I recommend these settings ever for new users b/c of the more verbose prompts)

Thanks for that, however, I didn't give the full picture because as you mentioned the situation would have been a sure out on the batter runner if not for the wild throw so an error is needed to be given to the SS in this scenario.

Tried everything and did do the FC but of course that didn't give the stats required. Tearing my hair out here.

Appreciate your response.

No need to tear your hair out... just explain in more detail what you are struggling with and chances are the community can help you..

Absent of more information, that is how i would expect an official scorer to record it for mlb, ncaa, or high school. however, if your league or level has different norms or standards - iscore has flexibility to handle many situations.

If in your judgement, you want to deviate from official scoring and give the SS a statistical throwing error -- Entering that into iscore is simple and straight forward.. you would enter The first part of the play the same as i described before...

In Play> Fielders Choice> 2B-SS> Out- Second - Force Out > and then When asked 'what happen to batter?' instead of "safe- first-held up" enter "safe-first-error" > SS - throwing > done.

NOTE: This is a play that can be easily changed from "safe-held-up" to "safe-error-ss" post game in "pitch-by-pitch editor".
