First downs attributed to QB, not RB

Post by erikrole » Sat Sep 14, 2013 4:09 pm

Rushing yards are given to the RB, but when it comes to first downs, the QB is always given the first down. Am I doing something wrong or is it just a bug?

First downs are always credited to the QB. Getting a first down is really a team effort, not an individual player effort, but the QB gets credit for many things that belong to the team. For a QB, it is how many first downs they achieved during a game. For a running back, it doesn't really make as much since to track since a player could be going for a 3rd and 1 or a 1st and 20 to get the first down.... in either case, the QB had to be involved, but a player making that last yard showing as getting the first down does not make much sense.

That being said, we will add the request to our enhancement list.

FYI, there is tracking of rushing first downs....the link below goes to ESPN, where the last column is rushing First Downs...

We realize that sites have recently started adding that as a statistic. When iScore Football was created, it was not something that was tracked by the major sites (ESPN or NFL.com). As noted, we have added this request to our enhancement list.
