Fumble on conversion

Team trying for a 2pt conversion and fumbled. Other team recovered and then it went to kickoff. problem was it was giving other team the ball to kickoff (assuming because of fumble recovery). Went back and just said fumble own team recovered on previous play to get it to work. Thoughts?
