minimum Play at youth level

Post by bannind » Fri Aug 16, 2013 7:35 pm

Is there anyway, while scoring the game that I can determine the number of plays each player on the roster has been on the field? Our youth league has a minimum 7 play per half and they call an 'officials timeout' to check that compliance with 4 minutes left in each half. It would be nice to be able to confirm that we have that completed with a quick click..

thanks,
dan

It would be incredibly difficult in football to try and track every player on the field on every play. We track what takes place with the ball on every play (for both offense and defense), but not what takes place for all the players not involved in the play.

We will add your suggestion to our list of potential future enhancements for those that want to try and track all players on the field.

If your app did this, I would buy it in a heartbeat. This is one of the most important stats I need to keep for the youth football teams. If I could make a suggestion on how to add this:

Have an "active roster" for offense, defense, kick-off, kick-return (other special configs would be ideal as well). Then allow quick swapping of those rosters from the list of substitutes. Once the app is tracking these rosters, you can simply increment the play count for every player on the active roster for each play that's recorded.

This type of interface would be easy for me to manage while scoring the game from the sideline, because I would have the starting rosters pre-configured, and then just tap on a player and his replacement if he's subbed out, then score the play normally.

A huge bonus would be some way to view/sort the current players by total plays so far in the game. We are always tracking from the sideline to keep an eye on which kids need more plays.

for what it is worth, I have seen the minimum plays rule here in ohio middle school and younger youth football. coaches are tracking it with paper, pencil and clipboard.. Number of plays per player. not as specific as offense (O) plays, defense (D) plays and special (S) teams (Kick, -SK and Return -SR) plays. but i can see some one wanting that level of tracking. I could envision the app providing an in game stat on number plays (O, D, S(SK,SR)) by roster but up to coach to manage 'so what', like pitch counts in baseball or innings played, would not establish a max rule in app but the stat to know where they stand, have or have not played how many plays, offense, defense and special teams plays. not pushing, just building on the user idea

Thanks for adding to the thread! That's exactly how I'm tracking it right now (and all the stats). I have a stat chart with each player and colums and I track it by hand making tally marks for each play on the clipboard. I have the main pre-set teams for O, D, SK, and SR, noted on the clip-board and I put a mark next to each player based on the play type in addition to having to track the results of the play. It's a huge pain to do it all by hand, but it's possible. I'd much rather have an app ( hint, hint...)

glad to chime in... Sounds like it is a programing challenge per FTM Support response, but my educated guess is they will still put on the list for future consideration.. and mean it. they will assess it's complexity vs customer demand, as they evolve the product - as they do with all their development time/priorities and ideas.

over 4+ years i have used iScore products, FTM Support has been outstanding at listening to and incorporating customer feedback into the product advances . they may say unlikely now, but past history has shown, they do not loose track of good ideas that are well supported by a broad base of its target users. . (not all ideas of course make it in, I have had my fair share stay on the cutting room floor, but many do end up in future generations). they really do mean it when they say, they will put on the list for future consideration.

their commitment to the user is on of the big reasons i support this forum, they have earned it.
