Game Location

Post by bellefso » Fri Jun 01, 2012 6:23 pm

Hi,

When setting up a game, how do you use the game location? Is this just to type in an address? Is there any support for using GPS to set this? When I do a scorecast it appears to put in coordinates, but they are way off.

Thanks,

Brian

On iOS, we use GPS to determine the location of the scorekeeper. On Android, we look up location based on the IP address of the scorekeeper (not as accurate). You can change the location of a game by logging in to the Admin Website (http://my.iscorecentral.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;) and going to the Scorecasts tab and setting the game location from there. If it is close, you can just drop the "pin" where it should be. If it is not, you can start typing an address or name of the park / school the game is at, and the map control will look up the address and place the pin.

First of all why does my game location default to the south side of Africa? Is there a setting to close it down to the zip code we play in? And when I do choose scorecast tab and click location and find our field on the globe there is no pin to drop...can't you sync to a team google map ?

When logged in to the Admin Website (http://my.iscorecentral.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;), if you go to the Games tab and select Scorecasts, then click the magnifying glass next to any scorecast, it brings up a google map of the location. You can type an address or name of a point of interest, city, zip code, etc into the text field, and google maps will show that area. A red pin is always shown in the center of the google map that you can drag to the exact spot that the scorekeeping took place.

If you are not seeing this, then if you can email us at support@iscoresports.com with your customer ID and which game you are having trouble with, we can take a look.

If your games are defaulting to an odd location, it likely means either you have location services turned off on your device, the location services are not working properly, or if the location can not be determined, it will try and do a lookup of location based on the IP address your device is assigned while scoring the game. Sometimes the IP addresses are not properly registered so the locations do not come up correctly in this case.
