Bases Loaded, Two Outs, Dropped Third Strike

If you have any rules related questions, please ask in this forum. In general, enforcement of rules is up to the Umpire of the game and iScore does not specifically enforce them, but we want to make sure we score within them. Ask here, and experts can chime in.

Bases Loaded, Two Outs, Dropped Third Strike

Post by mjacton » Fri Jul 05, 2013 8:18 am

Not really sure if this is an enhancement request or not. Rule 6.09 says batter may run on third strike with first base occupied if there are two outs. Logically this makes a play at second a force out. If there's a runner at first and second, it's a force out at third. And, finally, if the bases are loaded, there's a force at every base on the third strike.

So, say the catcher picks up the ball on the third strike and touches home plate. The runner on third is out. Is there a way to score this as iScore is already set up?

Yes. Dropped third strike, safe. What happened to runner on third? Out, force out, catcher.

It's been a long time since I had to deal with this again, and I just took the word of the person who responded.

Unfortunately, I've run across it again and find that this answer is only a partial solution.

If I score it Safe - Dropped Third - Force out at home, the catcher is charged with a passed ball.

This may be a needed enhancement after all.
