Error or Unlucky hit (open discussion,'rules interpretation')

If you have any rules related questions, please ask in this forum. In general, enforcement of rules is up to the Umpire of the game and iScore does not specifically enforce them, but we want to make sure we score within them. Ask here, and experts can chime in.

Error or Unlucky hit (open discussion,'rules interpretation')

Post by jjainsea » Fri May 19, 2017 10:44 pm

Scenario - How do I score this:

Bases loaded
2 outs
ground ball hit to short stop
second baseman goes to cover second
shortstop tosses ball to second baseman
Runner is called safe at second with umpiring exclaiming that the second baseman missed the bag

Coach calls this an E-6
One group says unlucky hit
One group says its an error on second baseman

Any thoughts and better yet, any references that I can review to "officially" score this.

My take is the scorekeeper has to decide if the shortstop made a poor throw that drew the second baseman off the bag. So it is either a Fielders choice with an E4 or E6.

Agree with both replies. Can't tell without seeing, but sounds more like E4 possibly E6. Only way it is a hit is if there was basically no play at any base.
