Question on Earned Runs

If you have any rules related questions, please ask in this forum. In general, enforcement of rules is up to the Umpire of the game and iScore does not specifically enforce them, but we want to make sure we score within them. Ask here, and experts can chime in.

Question on Earned Runs

Post by wmikulas » Tue Apr 05, 2016 12:23 pm

Pitcher 1 has two outs and no one on. He gives up a double to batter 1.
Pitcher 1 is relieved by Pitcher 2.
Pitcher 2 gives up a single to his first batter and Runner on second scores.
Does Pitcher 1 get an earned run or an unearned run? iScore did not give him an earned run.

It depends what else happened in the inning.

For example, if the inning should have ended earlier but was only extended due to an error, then Pitcher 1 would not get an earned run due to the score. That is why you have to recreate the whole inning to make ER decisions for the first pitcher.

Agree w both petro and support

If all that happen in the inning was.. Two outs, (no errors), double, pitcher change, single w RBI and then 3rd out . Pitcher 1 would be credited with an earned run by iscore...

If however before the double there had been an error that if it had not happen would have resulted in third out, an inning over.. then the runs after that error for pitcher 1 (including batter who dubbed are un earned.

Note the second pitcher, does not inherit the errors.. So even if the batter who doubled was unearned, if the batter who singled off pitcher 2 was to score off say the next batter tripple. That run would be earned for pitcher 2..
