popup hit or error?

Post by coach1 » Sun Mar 23, 2014 5:22 am

popup in between 1st and 2nd on the right field fringe. the players converge, 1B 2B and RF. ball falls to the ground without being touched by any player, could have conceivably caught by anyone of the three. Hit or error? I have scored as hit as i judge it to be a mental error on the defense. Right or wrong?

This involves the old adage: "if an easy fly ball falls between fielders (never touched) it's a hit". I don't score it that way, although it's often hard to say who should get the error. If there is serious wind, I score these a hit, but not otherwise. I don't know if there is a rule about this??

I'm with ohiotex on this issue. That said, I should also say that I score high school and college games. At that level of play, the "ordinary effort" scoring method is appropriate. Maybe at Little League level, the scoring could be more lenient. But just maybe. A good argument can be made that even little kids should be judged the same as the big guys. Cheers!

Ok I won't debate that an error could be charged but to whom? You have 3 players who are equi distance from the ball as it hits the ground so to whom do you charge it

Whould have to have seen it live..

Agree 'ordinary effort' 'at the level'

B/c what is ordinary for a college kid is extraordinary for a little leaguer
