spring training wierdness

Post by paulnsj01 » Tue Mar 04, 2014 10:20 am

I asked for suggestions on how to score a play this morning. I'm going to provide more plays that tend to happen in spring training, but I guess it sharpens our scoring skills also.

1. Toronto vs. Philly... for Philly Maikel Franco is on 3rd,Reid Brignac is on 2nd, Kelly Dugan on 1st, theres one out.

Heres how the next play is described: Tommy Joseph reaches on a force attempt, throwing error by 1Bman Andy Laroche. Franco scores,Brignac to 3rd,Dugan to 2nd.

Scoring that one is tricky... any help would be great. But its followed by a play a described earlier this morning.. I'll describe it the way it was on MLB

2. Tyson Gillies lines into a double play,2nd baseman Getz to SS Diaz. Dugan doubled off of second base.

These plays tend to occur alot in spring training. Any help in getting accurate scoring would be welcome. Thanks!

(Topic moved from FAQ to scoring questions)

The second scenario has been asked and answered in other thread ( no need to double post)

1) your scenario 1. Is pretty routine
Based loaded, one out. Reach on error, all runners advance

In play , reach on error, tap player that made error (ie 1b and tap if throwing or fielding), what happen to runner on 3rd? Home, scores, advance by batter ( assuming he would have scored even if no error) or you can say advance on same error. Same for runner at 2nd, and 1st

I would have thought a fielding error on first not throwing but will trust your description.

I score let's you score what you see. Follow that mantra and most keystrokes are obvious

What happen to batter .. In play reach on error by 1b
What happen to player x from y base? Etc

I'm getting the rust off a little bit by scoring spring trying games. So I'm just using the play by play description provided by MLB. I'm guessing the batter grounded to first, and he probably attempted a throw to the pitcher, bit messed up on the relay.

Learning iScore by scoring a game live or on TV is great way to learn .. As the Iscore model is based on " score what you see".

Scoring off only an audio or text broadcast could have its quirks..
