Its possible to get an assist on a play where no out is recorded due to error. Example: SS fields and throws to first, 1B drops ball, runner safe on E3. SS gets credit for the assist anyway.

Is this what you might be referring to?

It became possible to record these when 4.0 was released. Make sure advanced scorekeeping is turned on in settings.

But it's always been an assist to the player attempting to aid in getting a players out? I've never heard an assist without an out being recorded, thanks again. New to the update and I did check advanced because I thought I was , not so sure now... Thanks

Yes, its an odd rule, but it is and has always been the rule. The thought process, I assume, is to not penalize one player for the actions of another.

But, its been pointed out on these boards by others, in no other sport can you get an assist on a unsuccessful play.

Luckily that is the only odd rule in "official" baseball scoring . :lol: :lol:

For the heck of it, an infielder can get an assist for someone's else's error? Can the first baseman get an assist, actually it's wold be a put out if the SS throws a wild throw that otherwise would be a sure out? An outfield throws a strike to home and the catcher drops it, the outfielder get the assist? strange rule? where can I read the actual rule for clarification?

Section 10.10 of the official MLB Rules:

http://mlb.mlb.com/mlb/official_info/of ... rer_10.jsp
10.10 Assists
An assist is a statistic credited to a fielder whose action contributes to a batter-runner or runner being put out, as set forth in this Rule 10.10.
(a) The official scorer shall credit an assist to each fielder who
(1) throws or deflects a batted or thrown ball in such a way that a putout results, or would have resulted except for a subsequent error by any fielder. Only one assist and no more shall be credited to each fielder who throws or deflects the ball in a run-down play that results in a putout, or would have resulted in a putout, except for a subsequent error;
