Single and Force Out vs. Fielder's Choice

Post by dfranke » Tue May 28, 2013 10:32 pm

Runner on first, 1 out. Batter hits a soft liner to short center. Runner hesitates not knowing the ball will drop in. Defense makes the force play at 2B. This can't be a fielder's choice, can it? The play is definitely a single if the bases are empty.

How would this be accounted for in iScore?

It is a fielder's choice. If a runner is forced out on a play, it is not a base hit.

This is by rule

MLB rules 10.05 (b)
The official scorer shall not credit a base hit when a:
(1) runner is forced out by a batted ball, or would have been forced out except for
a fielding error;
