Partial Innings

Post by cfcatt » Mon Aug 06, 2012 7:47 am

My daughter pitched 6 complete innings and one out of the 7th; this should be 6.33 innings and on the ipad it correctly shows that, but when I upload to the website it shows 6.1 innings.

How can I change it online?

Thanks

The team website uses the notation you see on most websites (like ESPN or MLB) where 1/3 of an inning is shown as .1, and 2/3 of an inning is shown as .2.

Why is it different? When you take the total amount of innings and the total earned runs the math doesn't give you the correct ERA.

The calculated ERA on the site is correct. The notation of showing 6.0, 6.1, and 6.2 is the standard practice for major websites. We don't know why that standard was adopted, but if you go look at any of the major sites like ESPN, MLB, etc, you will see it is the standard.

Stats-wise, using .1 to represent 1/3 inning and .2 for 2/3 inning is a space saver in the stat reports (rather than .3333 or .6667 or using the fraction, like 3 2-3). Perhaps it is easier to digest to read 4.1 innings rather then 4.3 innings (a case where kilometer-age will vary :? )
Just remember that it only applies in pitching stats reports.
