Define "On the Throw?"
Define "On the Throw?"
Would someone mind explaining what "On the Throw" means when scoring and when it should be used? Thanks!

Re: Define "On the Throw?"
If there is a runner at second, and a batter hits a single to the outfield, and the outfielder throws the ball home in an attempt to get the lead runner, and the batter goes to second while the ball is heading home, the batter hit a single, and advanced to second "on the throw".

Thanks. So would it be right to say that the "On the Throw" takes the place of Fielder's Choice to describe base advancement after the runner has past 1st base.. for the specific situation of the ball in the air going somewhere else?

Yes, that would be a way to think of it... a fielder's choice for runner advancement after a base hit.

Strictly by the book, it's still a fielder's choice. It's just a way to be a bit more specific about what happened, just like defensive indifference. Both are covered in the definition of FC in Rule 2.0.thomasx wrote:Thanks.
