Pickoff attempt error, runner on first thrown out at third

Post by tonylima » Sat Mar 07, 2015 5:34 pm

This one has me stumped. A runner on first. Pitcher's pickoff attempt goes wild. Runner makes an unwise decision to try for third. He is thrown out at third.

I know the first step is E-1 for the bad throw. What do I do after that?

Thanks,
Tony Lima

You can tap the runner on 1st, and select Safe Second, Error, 1.

Then tap the runner who is now at second, and select Out, Third, Caught Stealing, 1-3-5 (or whoever was involved in the play).

Beautiful. Elegant, logical and straightforward. Many thanks! (I'm pretty sure I'll never have to use this again, but the insight is very nice.)

I disagree with the scoring if I read well the action. I think the CS cannot be given, as the action started from a pitcher throwing error and not on a stealing attempt. The correct scoring is advancement to 2nd on E1T, put out at third on 3-5. You cannot credit the pitcher with an assist, as he committed an error 10.11 ( d)

How would you have credited the advance to third, if successful. If a stolen base than caught stealing if out

I have to go with Taxi_dad on this. If the runner had made it successfully to third it would have still been part of the initial E1T; just two bases instead of one.
