So, we have two outs and the batter is jammed by the pitcher. The best he can do is a weak groundball toward short. Short is playing at his customary position so he has to charge the ball. He fields the ball cleanly at the fringe of the infield grass and crow hops before throwing accurately to first. Batter is hustling out of the box and is correctly called safe.
Is it a single or is it an error because of the late throw due to the crow hop?
I'm biased, so I'd like some clear-headed folks to chime in.

Thease are virtually impossible to answer without seeing..
Best a scorekeeper can do is try to be consistent,.. Game to game , player to player , team to team to apply 'ordinary effort'
Official rules often state benefit of doubt to batter

Re: Hustle single or Error?
It is not an error when a player is just slow to throw the ball. Sounds like a base hit. If the throw was bad, or he mis-fielded the ball, then it could be an error, but just slow throwing to first because of a crow hop is not an error.

Re: Hustle single or Error?
Thanks for the feedback. Like I said, I am knowingly biased. My son, the pitcher, defended his shortstop. I was less charitable. Sounds like I leave it as a springtime infield hit. I'm sure he gets rid of the ball earlier in the future when he gets more accustomed to game speed again.
