Adding a Players Efficiency Rating (PER)

Post by Pcarl » Mon Apr 22, 2013 6:04 am

I love IScore's EFF rating. Any chance of adding a Player Efficiency Rating (PER) to the stats? I think that would be an excellent enhancement. It was even developed by an ESPN statistician. ESPN being the maker of this software.

We do have an efficiency rating as well as several other advanced stats as described here in our FAQ:

Yeah...those are good, but a lot of people feel that the EFF stat tends to favor more offensive minded players, while PER was developed by ESPN statistician John Hollinger to fix that problem and make a stat that is more fair to all players, both offensive and defensive minded players. It would be nice to have both stats.

The problem with trying to calculate PER in iScore is it has several things that can not be calculated in iScore unless iScore was being used league wide. There are "pace factors" for the team and league and some league wide averages that need to be included in order to do this calculation. Since the league wide factors are being used, it is also best used when a season is complete so the pace and league values are not changing every time a new game is scored for the season.
